My favorite film from each countryby guisreis | created - 09 May 2014 | updated - 4 days ago | Public
Whenever it was possible, I avoided to choose films which have not a local language as one of the spoken ones and that had not the country as a filming location. I also tried to include the maximum of films (therefore, a country may not have my favorite local film from there, in order to 'lend' it, as a co-production, to another country). Films not produced by a country are not considered from that country even if it has been filmed there or if its story is held there (non Turkish "Istanbul United", non Bolivian "Even the rain", non Indian "Slumdog Millionaire", non Paraguayan "Cuchillo de Palo", non Afghan The Breadwinner, non Philippine "1898, Our Last Men in the Philippines", non Belizean "The three kings of Belize", and neither Palestine nor Israeli "Promises", for example). Although I love "Soy Cuba", I also decided not to include it, as it is much more a Soviet film than a Cuban one, but also it is spoken in Spanish and shot in Cuba with Cuban actors; therefore it is a co-production that does not fit very well neither as a Soviet movie nor as a Cuban one. I did not include short films (therefore, 26-minute TV movie "Mandrake the magician" cannot represent Bermuda, and short film "Berta vive" cannot represent Honduras) or TV series either.
See also my lists of Asian films, Latin American movies, Eastern European films, and movies about Africa.
