The Canterville Ghost Debate:

So which one premiered on The Disney Channel in 1988? Was it the 1985 or the 1986 version? According to The Orlando Sentinel for 10/28/1988, it was the 1985 version: http://articles.orlandosentinel.com/1988-10-28/lifestyle/0080040198_1_canterville-ghost-topper-halloween

The article in its entirety:

"Disney Channel's Halloween Weekend October 28, 1988|By Patty Ladd, Los Angeles Daily News

It is the season of the year when ghosts and goblins and things that go bump in the night are out, and The Disney Channel has set aside the weekend to celebrate the occasion.

The pay-cable channel has planned an array of shows designed to delight the heart of everyone who has ever donned a mask and, with fear and trepidation, rapped on a neighbor's door declaring that if there were not some wonderfully sweet treat forthcoming, a trick might follow.

Beginning at 10 a.m. Sunday is The Canterville Ghost, starring Richard Kiley, Christian Jacobs and Priscilla Weems. It is the tale of an American family that shares an old English mansion with its former inhabitant, Simon de Canterville, a ghost doomed to haunt the mansion until an ancient curse is lifted.

Raggedy Ann and Andy: The Pumpkin Who Couldn't Smile, The Witch's Sister, Best of Walt Disney Presents: Magic and Music and Return From Witch Mountain starring Bette Davis follow.

At 7 p.m. is Miss Morison's Ghosts, featuring Wendy Hiller, Hannah Gordon and Vivian Pickles. It is the story of two Victorian women, vacationing in France, who encounter the ghosts of Marie Antoinette and her court in the gardens at the Palace of Versailles. They jeopardize their careers by publishing an account of their eerie experience.

The 1939 classic ADVERTISEMENT Topper Takes a Trip closes out the Halloween programming for the evening.

The original Topper, starring Cary Grant and Constance Bennett, begins Monday's holiday festivities at 1 p.m.

At 4 p.m. is Which Witch Is Which, followed by Witch's Night Out, A Disney Halloween and Halloween Is Grinch Night.

Mr. Boogedy is scheduled for 8 p.m. John Astin stars as a novelty-gag salesman whose constant pranks have prepared his family to view life as one big joke. So, when they move into a haunted house, they think it's just another trick.

The black-and-white adult drama The Ghost and Mrs. Muir, starring Gene Tierney, Rex Harrison and George Sanders, is scheduled at 9 p.m., and the evening's Halloween offering is closed out with another Topper film, Topper Returns."
