Unnecessary sequels, reboots and remakes

by big_bea | created - 08 Jul 2014 | updated - 1 month ago | Public

This list will feature the most unnecessary sequels etc. that are being developed right now. Sometimes it seems to me that creativity is dead, and those films are to blame for that. The future instalments in the Star Wars saga won't be on here, since I am, for some reason, cautiously optimistic about them -- but let's see where I stand on that after the release of Episode VII.

1. Ted 2 (2015)

R | 115 min | Comedy

48 Metascore

Newlywed couple Ted and Tami-Lynn want to have a baby, but in order to qualify to be a parent, Ted will have to prove he's a person in a court of law.

Director: Seth MacFarlane | Stars: Mark Wahlberg, Seth MacFarlane, Amanda Seyfried, Jessica Barth

Votes: 168,195 | Gross: $81.48M

I'll give this one a shot. I really liked Ted when I saw it the first time, but after the second time I'm no longer so sure about it. Comedy sequels are often bad, and I really don't know what this one is going to be about. Storywise, I don't expect much, but hopefully some of the jokes will be good.

2. Avatar 2 (2021)

Action, Adventure, Fantasy | Post-production

A sequel to Avatar (2009).

Director: James Cameron | Stars: Vin Diesel, Zoe Saldana, Michelle Yeoh, Cliff Curtis

Sure, Avatar was a huge success and one example of 3D used to it's best effect. But what more is there to tell? I like the first film, but I think they should have left it at that. 3 and especially 4 fall under the same category for me.

3. Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters 2

Action, Fantasy | Announced

After killing the dark evil witch, the brother and sister Hansel and Gretel think that they are safe. But what they don't know is, there is another dark force striking them soon.

Director: Bruno Aveillan

The original was trashy fun. Such films really don't need sequels.

4. Sharknado 2: The Second One (2014 TV Movie)

TV-14 | 95 min | Action, Adventure, Comedy

Fin and April are on their way to New York City, until a category seven hurricane spawns heavy rain, storm surges, and deadly Sharknadoes.

Director: Anthony C. Ferrante | Stars: Ian Ziering, Tara Reid, Vivica A. Fox, Mark McGrath

Votes: 16,844

What is worse than legendary awfulness that creates a cult following? Dublicated awfulness that tries to capitalize one said cult status.

PG-13 | 116 min | Action, Comedy, Fantasy

60 Metascore

Following a ghost invasion of Manhattan, paranormal enthusiasts Erin Gilbert and Abby Yates, nuclear engineer Jillian Holtzmann, and subway worker Patty Tolan band together to stop the otherworldly threat.

Director: Paul Feig | Stars: Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones

Votes: 189,200 | Gross: $128.34M

I liked the first two, but again a lot of time has passed and that will make it harder to recapture what was good about these films.

6. Bad Teacher 2

Comedy | Announced

Plot unknown. A sequel to the 2011 comedy, 'Bad Teacher'.

Worse than comedy sequels are sequels to comedys that weren't very good to begin with.
