Norman Lear & Producer Brent Miller On ‘All In The Family’ & ‘The Jeffersons’ Live Redux Tonight & A Potential Franchise
“I’ll tell you, seriously, the most amazing thing is listening to these two shows where we agreed word for word — we would not change a word, and nothing has been changed, and I can’t believe how relevant it is to this moment,” Norman Lear says of ABC’s star-studded Live in Front of a Studio Audience: Norman Lear’s All in the Family and The Jeffersons re-creation tonight.

With the seismic social awareness of two of the most influential small-screen offerings of all time still sharp, the 90-minute special fronted by Lear mega-fan Jimmy Kimmel offers a whole new direction for the live TV genre as network musicals of the past few years fade in the abundance of this Peak TV era. Inside Jimmy Kimmel and Norman Lear’s ‘All in the Family’ and ‘The Jeffersons’ Live Remake Special
It’s probably no surprise that Norman Lear has seen his relevancy rise even higher in recent years. Lear’s classic 1970s sitcoms, such as “All in the Family,” “Maude,” “Good Times” and “The Jeffersons,” feel just as applicable today as they did 40 years ago.

And that’s part of the motivation behind ABC’s Wednesday night special “Live in Front of a Studio Audience: Norman Lear’s ‘All in the Family’ and ‘The Jeffersons.'”

The special is a re-creation of two episodes, one from each series, as performed by contemporary stars — including Woody Harrelson as Archie Bunker, Marisa Tomei as Edith Bunker, Jamie Foxx as George Jefferson, and Wanda Sykes as Louise Jefferson.

The actual episodes used are under embargo, but there is a natural thread between the two shows, given that “The Jeffersons,” which ran from 1975 to 1985, is a spinoff of “All in the Family,” which aired from 1971 to 1979. For this special,

‘Sauvage / Wild’ Film Review: Debut Feature Examines a Gay Hustler’s Life Without Sentimentality

‘Sauvage / Wild’ Film Review: Debut Feature Examines a Gay Hustler’s Life Without Sentimentality
There have been quite a few high-quality American films about male prostitution, from John Schlesinger’s Oscar-winning “Midnight Cowboy” to Gus Van Sant’s “My Own Private Idaho” and Gregg Araki’s “Mysterious Skin,” and from France there has been Patrice Chéreau’s “L’Homme blessé,” and several films from André Téchiné, most notably “J’embrasse pas,” which translates as “I Don’t Kiss.”

Camille Vidal-Naquet’s first feature “Sauvage/Wild” is very much in the Téchiné tradition of “J’embrasse pas,” and the subject of kissing or not kissing is actually central to the narrative. What’s most impressive about this film is the intricacy of Naquet’s screenplay, which plays out in a series of subtly mirroring episodes that follow the life of Leo, a 22-year-old street kid played by Félix Maritaud, who made an impression on screen in “Bpm (Beats Per Minute)” and carries this movie almost singlehandedly.

Move over, Archer. Some new animated spies are coming to town.
