‘Hedwig and the Angry Inch’ Blu-ray Review (Criterion)

  • Nerdly
Stars: John Cameron Mitchell, Andrea Martin, Michael Pitt, Stephen Trask, Miriam Shor | Written by John Cameron Mitchell, based on the musical by John Cameron Mitchell and Stephen Trask | Directed by John Cameron Mitchell

Born a boy in East Berlin, Hansel Schmidt (writer-director John Cameron Mitchell) was raised by a German mother and an American father. Thus began his obsession with rock music – particularly the gender-malleable antics of artists like David Bowie, for whom of course Berlin was no stranger. Despite his mother’s attempts to restrict Hansel’s musical performance urges (she insists he practice singing with his head in the oven) and lead an ordinary life, he ends up falling for a black, male American GI and he decides to become a woman named Hedwig. The “Angry Inch” is the result of Hedwig’s botched operation, and before she knows it she’s divorced in a trailer park in Kansas.

Beyoncé’s ‘Lion King’ Album Has Kendrick Lamar, Childish Gambino, Jay-Z and Blue Ivy
Beyoncé has unveiled the track listing for her “Lion King” companion album on her website… a whole three days ahead of its release. That might be even sooner than expected, given how much Queen Bey likes surprises and somehow managed to keep the entire project under wraps until the week before the album and movie come out.

Beyoncé herself appears on nine of the 14 tracks, but it’s still a pretty big kingdom represented on “The Lion King: The Gift.” Guests include her voice-acting costar Donald Glover — billed for his musical talents as Childish Gambino, of course — along with her husband and child, Jay-Z and Blue Ivy Carter. Her musical cast is rounded out by Pharrell, Jessie Reyez, Tekno, Yemi Alade, Mr. Eazi, Burna Boy, Slatiel, SAINt Jhn, WizKid, Tiwa Savage, Shatta Wale, Teirra Whack, Busiswa, Moonchild Sanelly and 070 Shake.

The “Gift” album is not to be confused with the primary “Lion King” soundtrack,

‘The Lion King’ Review: Dir. Jon Favreau (2019)

©2019 Disney Enterprises, Inc.

The spinning wheel of the Disney remake machine has landed on the much beloved 1994 feature The Lion King, one of the most successful Disney properties of all time. With Jon Favreau in the director’s chair putting to use the photo-realistic visual effects he honed in his remake of The Jungle Book, does this prove to be a worthwhile return to Pride Rock?

When a tragedy set in motion by Simba’s nefarious uncle, Scar (Chiwetel Ejiofor), forces Simba away from the Pride Lands, he must learn to deal with the trauma of his past in order to take his rightful place as King.

The Lion King in its original 1994 incarnation is a brightly designed

’Chiwawa’ Review: Dir. Ken Ninomiya (2019) [Fantasia 2019]

(C)2019 Chiwawa Chang Production Commiiee(Toei Video, Vap, Kadokawa, Geek Piktures, Toei Advertising)

Some people go to the cinema for enjoyment, and those people would do best to steer clear of Chiwawa. This is a hedonistic assassination of a character told through the eyes of observers, each with their own motivation. Based on the manga by Kyoko Okazaki, Ken Ninomiya adapts this cruel tale with particular sense of style that has a series of players drag the protagonist through the muck, yet has the audience judge those speaking. Inspiration has been drawn from real life and popular culture to present this tale of a young woman chewed up and spat out by the system and people around her. A club the characters frequent is known as Sedgwick, a clear nod to Edie Sedgwick, a star of Andy Warhol’s short films who became dubbed an ‘it girl’ and died at

Taron Egerton on Taking Over Wolverine: There Are Probably Better Candidates

Taron Egerton on Taking Over Wolverine: There Are Probably Better Candidates
Is Rocketman star Taron Egerton really a candidate to become our next Wolverine? Officially speaking, no. But in the sense that the rising star is absolutely willing to take on the opportunity should Marvel come calling? Yes, then he's absolutely a candidate. Though, Egerton doesn't necessarily feel, personally, that he's the most qualified candidate.

Taron Egerton is having one heck of a year already, having portrayed Elton John in the biopic Rocketman, which could easily see him nominated for a Best Actor Oscar. He's also set to appear in Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance on Netflix later this year. But could a trip to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the beloved, claw-fisted mutant be next? The 29-year-old actor recently addressed the rumors on a British morning radio show. Here's what he had to say about it.

"That one I think is just a rumour. As far as I'm aware it's unfounded.

Taron Egerton Addresses Wolverine Rumors, Says He’d Love To Join The McU

When Hugh Jackman was first cast as Wolverine, he was a complete unknown that had been hired three weeks after X-Men started shooting. By the time he retired from playing the character for a ninth and final time in Logan, his portrayal of Wolverine had become an icon of popular culture, gracefully riding into the sunset after starring in one of the greatest comic book movies ever made.

Now that Marvel Studios have reacquired the rights to the X-Men following Disney’s takeover of 20th Century Fox and Dark Phoenix bombed spectacularly at the box office, it’s only a matter of time before the mutants make their way over to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Obviously, this won’t be the first time the X-Men will have been rebooted. In fact, most of the major characters in the series have been rebooted or retconned in some way, with the exception of Wolverine.

Robert Downey Jr has also been confirmed to reprise the titular character. Whilst it hasn’t been confirmed whether Jude Law will be returning as Doctor Watson, it is expected.

Sources say Warner Bros. had always planned on making a third film. However, Downey’s busy schedule as Iron Man prevented any new filming for the series.

Fletcher takes over the reins from Ritchie who had been in the driving seat for the 2009 outing and its follow-up ‘Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows’ in 2011. Both were a massive hit, with the first grossing $524 million globally and the second bringing in $545.4 million worldwide.

Sherlock Holmes 3 Replaces Guy Ritchie with Rocketman Director
Sherlock Holmes 3 is moving forward with Dexter Fletcher signing on to direct. The Rocketman director is taking over for Guy Ritchie, and fans should be pretty happy to know there is finally some forward movement with the long awaited sequel.

Guy Ritchie directed the first two installments, starting with 2009's Sherlock Holmes and then 2011's Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows. Sherlock Holmes 3 was originally set to hit theaters in December 2020, but it was revealed earlier this year that the sequel will instead come out in December 2021.

Robert Downey Jr. is returning to star in Sherlock Holmes 3 after spending the last decade in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Iron Man. The actor is now finished with the Tony Stark role after Avengers: Endgame and teased he was getting into his Sherlock role last summer. Jude Law is expected to return as Watson, but that has yet to be officially confirmed.

Beyoncé and Donald Glover Update ‘Can You Feel The Love Tonight’ From ‘The Lion King’

Beyoncé and Donald Glover Update ‘Can You Feel The Love Tonight’ From ‘The Lion King’
25 years ago, a generation of children watched two animated lions fall in passionate and steamy love, while a cartoon meerkat and warthog peeped on in despair. “Can You Feel The Love Tonight” soundtracked the intimate moment. Among the unimpeachable bangers Elton John and Tim Rice cooked up for The Lion King, the romantic duet between Simba and Nala was at the top. Then Beyoncé happened — and when Beyoncé happens, you let her do whatever she wants. Instead of adding more bombast or bravado, the 2019 update of “Can You Feel The

Dexter Fletcher to Direct ‘Sherlock Holmes 3’ at Warner Bros

Dexter Fletcher to Direct ‘Sherlock Holmes 3’ at Warner Bros
Dexter Fletcher, who most recently directed “Rocketman,” is attached to direct “Sherlock Holmes 3” at Warner Bros., with Robert Downey Jr. returning to star, an individual with knowledge of the project told TheWrap.

Fletcher takes over for Guy Ritchie, who directed the previous two “Sherlock Holmes” films that starred Downey Jr. and Jude Law, who is also expected to return. Ritchie made the classic detective story a steampunk, action-heavy, quick-witted joy ride, and the films from 2009 and 2011 made well over a $1 billion at the global box office combined.

The third “Sherlock Holmes” film is expected to hit theaters on Dec. 21, 2021 after initially announced to open on Christmas 2020. The gap between films will be 10 years, which was in part due to the scheduling troubles with Downey Jr.’s “Iron Man” and “Avengers” films.
