'Rings' Begins Shooting; Will Be a Sequel to 'The Ring'

'Rings' Begins Shooting; Will Be a Sequel to 'The Ring'
Earlier this month, a report surfaced that Paramount's Rings is actually a prequel, set several years before the 2002 thriller The Ring, exploring the origins of Samara Morgan's reign of terror and how the deadly VHS tape was first created. Over the weekend, Rings director F. Javier Guti&#233rrez took to his Twitter account to confirm that his project is actually a sequel, set 13 years after the events of The Ring. The filmmaker also confirmed earlier today on his Twitter page that principal photography is starting today in Atlanta.

It's possible that Rings still may examine both Samara and the VHS tape's origins, but no story details have been confirmed, aside from where the movie is set within The Ring franchise timeline. The director has been posting several images to his Instagram account over the past few days, which confirm Samara Morgan's presence in the thriller, although we don't quite know

'Rings' Will Be a Prequel to 'The Ring'

'Rings' Will Be a Prequel to 'The Ring'
Back in January, we reported that Paramount Pictures is moving forward with Rings, a continuation of The Ring franchise starring Italian actress Matilda Lutz. That report revealed that Rings will follow the same timeline established in the 2002 hit The Ring and its 2005 sequel The Ring Two, but with an all new cast. Today, a new report from Bloody-Disgusting reveals that Rings is actually a prequel, set several years before The Ring.

The Ring starred Naomi Watts as a woman trying to uncover the truth about a mysterious VHS video tape. Anyone who watches the tape turns up dead just seven days later. According to this report Rings will examine how the tape was created and delve into the origins of Samara's reign of terror. The site also reports that casting is currently under way, although it isn't known when production may begin. Back in January, Paramount handed out a November 13, 2015 release date,

Edward Furlong, who starred in "Terminator 2" back in the early 1990s, has had a string of run-ins with the law in recent years, including arrests for DUIs, public intoxication and violating a restraining order filed by estranged wife Rachael Bella.

The most recent troubles include an arrest for domestic violence in late 2012 and again in early 2013 for altercations with an unknown girlfriend.

Now TMZ is reporting that Furlong has been arrested yet again for violating a restraining order and getting involved in an argument with his ex-girlfriend. Said girlfriend called the police, who reportedly found Furlong hiding under a stairwell near her home when they arrived.

'Terminator 2' actor Edward Furlong sentenced to 180 days in jail for probation violation

  • Pop2it
Edward Furlong has been on a bit of a downward spiral in recent years. He has been in and out of rehab, suffered from a suspected heroin overdose, admitted to addictions to cocaine and heroin and been arrested for DUIs, public intoxication and violating a restraining order filed by estranged wife Rachael Bella.

Just in the past few months, he has been arrested twice for domestic violence against his ex-girlfriend Monica Keena. These arrests, plus violating a protective order Keena has against him, has led to Furlong being sentenced to 180 days in jail, reports TMZ.

The sentence stems from his probation from 2010, which requires that Furlong obey all laws during the course of his three-year probation. That 2010 probation was put in place after he violated a protective order by his estranged wife, the aforementioned Rachael.

Blu-ray Review: ‘The Ring’ Remake Initially Frightens Before Going in Circles

Chicago – I have a certain begrudging affection for Gore Verbinski’s 2002 remake of Hideo Nakata’s 1998 thriller, “Ringu,” despite the fact that I know in my heart of hearts that it doesn’t really work. Verbinski’s film falters precisely when it should be at its scariest, and yet it still has enough memorably eerie moments to inspire at least a couple sleepless nights.

It kicked off a series of increasingly inept American remakes of Asian horror films, quickly turning their once frightening motifs into self-satirizing clichés. Many Hollywood filmmakers fail to conjure the sense of brooding unease that allows surrealistic imagery to work its spell. Inexplicable puddles of water, pale-faced victims and a vengeful apparition in a white robe are all expected tropes of the genre, and they were all put to exceedingly powerful use in “Ringu.” It’s the apparition’s face hidden behind a thick mat of

Battle Royale Remake Won't Happen Because of The Hunger Games
I recently visited the set of CBS Films' upcoming thriller 7500, which is working towards an August 28, 2012 release date. While on the set in Los Angeles, we were able to speak with producer Roy Lee, who gave us updates on a slew of his upcoming productions, including the Oldboy remake. Here's what he had to say about Oldboy, which is gearing up to start shooting in March.

"We are planning to shoot Oldboy in March and that should start preproduction in late January. This is a completely new version written by Mark Protosevich."

Chan-wook Park's original Oldboy is based on the manga by Nobuaki Minegishi. Roy Lee said that screenwriter Mark Protosevich has come up with new elements that don't stem from the original movie or manga. He also revealed the ending will be much different, and there is a new take on the famous hallway scene from the original.

Edward Furlong Arrested for Getting Too Close to Ex-Wife

Edward Furlong was arrested yesterday morning after allegedly violating a court order to stay at least 100 yards away from his estranged wife. The "The Green Hornet" actor, who is the subject of a three-year restraining order forbidding him from going near Rachael Bella at her home, place of work and vehicle, was taken into police custody after turning up to court for a progress report where it was found that, according to the Los Angeles City Attorney's Office, Edward breached the order last month by coming within 50 yards of Rachael.

The 33-year-old star, who has a four-year-old son, Ethan, with Rachael, was then sent to jail, before being released after posting his $75,000 bail. A probation violation hearing has now been set for Valentine's Day.

The restraining order came after Rachael, who filed for divorce from Edward in July 2009 after three years of marriage, told the court in a previous hearing

Furlong Ordered To Stay Away From Estranged Wife
Actor Edward Furlong has been temporarily banned from contacting his estranged wife after a judge granted her request for a restraining order.

Rachael Kneeland filed for divorce from the Terminator 2: Judgement Day star in July 2009 after three years of marriage.

But their relationship has become more volatile since the split and Furlong was twice ordered to stay away from Kneeland last October after she accused him of beating her up following a heated argument.

Furlong has now been handed his third restraining order from Kneeland, banning him from contacting or approaching his ex and their three-year-old son Ethan after allegedly leaving a series of profanity-laced voicemails on her phone, reports TMZ.com.

Kneeland asked a Los Angeles County Superior Court judge to issue the temporary order on Friday, claiming the troubled actor made threats against her boyfriend in the messages.

In the documents, she accuses Furlong of saying, "If he dares hang out with f**king Ethan, I swear to god I'm gonna f**king rip his f**king heart and f**king feed it to him, you understand me? I will f**king rip him a new one, you can f**king, you see if you like him still when his f**king little pretty face is all deformed."

In another voicemail, Furlong is alleged to have told her, "F**k you Rachael. I'm sick of you... you are such f**king vermin... you are a cesspool of s**t, that's what you are, you're nothing, you're nothing."

Kneeland is expected to play the messages for the court during a hearing on 31 August.
