Oscar Winner Ruth Carter Reimagined Western Costume Design for ‘Yellowstone’ Patriarch Kevin Costner

Oscar Winner Ruth Carter Reimagined Western Costume Design for ‘Yellowstone’ Patriarch Kevin Costner
Taylor Sheridan (“Hell or High Water”) continued his fascination with the contemporary western as showrunner/director of Paramount Network’s “Yellowstone” series. The vast Wyoming landscape was the backdrop for the familiar power struggle between ranchers, developers, and Native Americans. And like “Hell or High Water,” nobody had clean hands. But when it came to costume design, Sheridan turned to Oscar-winner Ruth Carter (“Black Panther”) to reinvigorate ranch wear for Kevin Costner’s ruthless patriarch, John Dutton, and Gil Birmingham’s Chief Rainwater. Even the young ranch hands look like their favorite rappers with hip-hop-style jeans that sag and cool belt buckles.

“Taylor Sheridan gave me a crash course over the phone,” Carter said. “Ranch wear has come a long way. The guys don’t wear the classic bat wings or shotgun chaps or spurs like they did in the old westerns. They like hip-hop wear, new brands, new ideas,

“Saint Judy” Is A Timely Yet Incomplete Biopic

The traditional biopic is slowly becoming a relic of the cinematic past. By and large, films made about real life public figures tend to try and find a new angle in depicting someone’s life. That way, it can never feel recycled or stale. However, some movies are still taking the tried and true path. Occasionally, it still works, but most of the time, it ends up feeling a bit empty. Such is the case with Saint Judy, a well intentioned and undeniably timely biopic that never fully realizes its potential. The story being told is important, for sure. Unfortunately, its depiction leaves something to be desired. The film is a look at attorney Judy Wood (Michelle Monaghan), who would single-handedly changed the asylum laws in the United States, all in an effort to help save women’s lives. A public defender, Judy accepts a job out west in California

Alfre Woodard is Juanita in Trailer for Reinvention Dramedy 'Juanita'

"Did you get a makeover... or something?" Netflix has debuted an official trailer for an indie comedy titled Juanita, from actor / director Clark Johnson. This hasn't shown at any film festival, but they're releasing it straight to Netflix early next month. Fed up with her life, Juanita leaves her grown kids behind and hits the road headed towards Montana in search of a fresh start. Alfre Woodard stars as Juanita, with a full cast including Adam Beach, Gil Birmingham, Ashlie Atkinson, Marcus Henderson, & Blair Underwood. Doesn't look that great, but it does look like a fairly amusing reinvention film mixing things up. Might be worth a watch? Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Clark Johnson's Juanita, direct from Netflix's YouTube: Fed up with her deadbeat grown kids and marginal urban existence, Juanita (Alfre Woodard) takes a Greyhound bus up to Paper Moon, Montana where she ...

Alfre Woodard Gets Seduced by Blair Underwood in Trailer for Netflix’s ‘Juanita’ (Video)
Alfre Woodard needs some love. The veteran, Oscar-nominated actress hasn’t always gotten the respect she deserves, and in her new film “Juanita,” she’s off to find some much-needed me time and maybe do a little fantasizing about Blair Underwood in the process.

In the first trailer dropped Monday by Netflix, we see Woodard lounging luxuriously on a red couch as a shirtless Underwood, who she refers to by his full name, starts to caress her body. Alas, it’s just a dream, interrupted by her daughter and baby granddaughter.

In “Juanita,” Woodard plays a woman fed up with her life who leaves her grown kids behind and hits the road in search of a fresh start. And she’s willing to go literally anywhere.
