Maleficent: Mistress of Evil Unveils Its First Trailer

Kirsten Howard May 14, 2019

Angelina Jolie is back as Maleficent, the Disney villain who practically invented "tfw big mood."

Robert Stromberg's 2014 live-action film Maleficent explored the classic tale of a princess (Elle Fanning) who, on her sixteenth birthday, pricked her finger on the spindle of a spinning wheel and fell into a deep sleep from which she would never awaken, thanks to a vengeful and powerful fairy by the name of Maleficent (Angelina Jolie). It was a pretty big hit for Disney so, even though the story wrapped up nicely, a sequel is on the way later this year.

The follow-up film finds Maleficent plunging back into a vintage dark mood after clashing with Michelle Pfeiffer's Queen Ingrith over the ongoing issues surrounding the protection of the moors. Chiwetel Ejiofor, Robert Lindsay, Sam Riley, Imelda Staunton, and Juno Temple also star.

Mistress of Evil also has a fresh director

First Trailer For Disney's Maleficent: Mistress Of Evil

The story of Maleficent continues in a sequel coming from Disney called Maleficent: Mistress of Evil and today we have the first teaser trailer to share with you for it.

Personally, I wasn’t a big fan of the first film, but I know that there are a lot of Disney fans who did enjoy the movie. If you are one those people, then this movie is obviously for you. It looks like it will be just as good as the first one was. The one thing that I do like about this next film is the fact that Michelle Pfeiffer is in it.

The movie was directed by Joachim Rønning (Kon Tiki) from a script written by Linda Woolverton (Maleficent), and here’s the synopsis:

Maleficent: Mistress of Evil is a fantasy adventure that picks up several years after “Maleficent,” in which audiences learned of the events that hardened

First Maleficent: Mistress Of Evil Trailer Teases A Dark Disney Sequel

While the dark sorceress received lukewarm reviews for her first solo outing in cinemas, 2014’s Maleficent did have a pretty impressive run at the box office, finishing off as the fourth highest-grossing release of that year. So, it’s not terribly surprising that production is very much underway for Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, the sequel to Disney’s live action revisionist take on the classic Sleeping Beauty villain.

Of course, the eponymous dark fairy will be once more played by Angelina Jolie, whose enjoyable performance in the first Maleficent impressed even the film’s detractors. Elle Fanning, meanwhile, will also be returning as Princess Aurora, and both of them feature in the trailer up above, which gives us our first proper look at the upcoming sequel.

It’s not the meatiest preview, but the footage we have here teases what appears to be a dark Disney outing, one which looks

‘Maleficent: Mistress Of Evil’ Trailer: Angelina Jolie Returns To Revisionist ‘Sleeping Beauty’ Tale

It’s been roughly five years since Angelina Jolie said “I hate you” directly to a baby’s face in a Disney movie, and what a joy that was. Though 2014’s “Maleficent” wasn’t quite as memorable as its fierce lead performance, Jolie’s witty and regal turn as the “Sleeping Beauty” villain reimagined as an anti-hero was more than welcoming of another installment.

With original film director Robert Stromberg handing the reigns to “Kon Tiki” and “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” co-director Joachim Rønning, Maleficent will fly again this fall with “Maleficent” Mistress of Evil.”

The sequel sees quite an influx of talent, with Michelle Pfeiffer, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Harris Dickinson, Warwick Davis, and Ed Skerin joining the ensemble that already featured Elle Fanning, Imelda Staunton, Lesley Manville, and Juno Temple.

Mysterio May Return In Future McU Films After Spider-Man: Far From Home

Fans can’t wait to see Mysterio in action in this summer’s Spider-Man: Far From Home. Not only will he be played by Jake Gyllenhaal – who once nearly played Spidey himself back in 2004, and sport the character’s classic costume (complete with fish-bowl helmet), but he’ll also apparently open the doors to the wider Marvel multiverse.

Even better though is that the sequel isn’t expected to be his only appearance in the franchise. Producer Eric Carroll spoke to io9 recently and revealed that there are plans to bring us more of Mysterio after Far From Home. Giving us a taste of where the character will go in this film and beyond, Carroll compared Quentin Beck’s story arc to Doctor Strange‘s Mordo (Chiwetel Ejiofor).

“We wanted to find our ‘in’ and similar to what we did with Mordo in Doctor Strange. We wanted to give them

New Photos From Disney's The Lion King and Jon Favreau Discusses The Film and Reinventing The Story

We have a few new photos to share with you today that shows off some of the CG animal characters thanks to EW. That includes new looks at Scar, Simba, Timon, Pumba and Rafiki. The magazine also talked with the cast and crew about the film and the characters that they play.

While it looks like The Lion King is going to basically be a shot-for-shot remake of the original animated film, Favreau explains how they were looking to reinvent the story, saying:

"I think this film is a culmination of all the live-action adaptations that Disney has done of their animated classics. The idea of taking these characters and this music, just as the stage play took it,

Lion King Director Jon Favreau Reveals How Beyoncé's Kids Motivated Her to Play Nala

  • Popsugar
The Lion King reboot is coming whether Disney purists want it or not, but at the very least, the studio has made sure that the cast for the live-action (er . . . CGI?) revival of the beloved story is star-studded, to put it lightly. While we're excited to see Donald Glover as Simba, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar, Seth Rogen as Pumba, and James Earl Jones returning to play Mufasa, we're admittedly the most interested in seeing how Homecoming queen Beyoncé tackles the role of Nala.

We get a few brief glimpses of the character in the latest trailer, but we've yet to hear any of her dialogue or musical performances. Fortunately, while sitting down for an interview with EW about the film, director Jon Favreau gave us a bit more perspective on what made the superstar want to play Nala. Apparently, her adorable kids - 7-year-old daughter Blue Ivy and 1-year-old twins
