Hey, Emilia Clarke (‘Game of Thrones’): 2 rogue Emmy Experts predict you’ll win Best Drama Actress for final season
While the overwhelming majority of Gold Derby’s Emmy Experts from major media outlets predict Sandra Oh (“Killing Eve”) will win Best Drama Actress, two pundits are going rogue. Both Nikki Novak (Fandango) and Lynette Rice (Ent. Weekly) instead believe Emilia Clarke (“Game of Thrones”) will ride Daenerys Targaryen’s dragon up to the podium on September 22. It’s the HBO actress’ first lead Emmy nomination after previously receiving three supporting bids.

Clarke, who’s just been announced as an Emmy presenter, notably faces off against Oh and Jodie Comer from “Killing Eve,” which has many awards watchers wondering if a vote-split could be on the horizon. If “Killing Eve” fans can’t decide between who to vote for, then a third contender like Clarke could benefit from the lack of consensus and pull off a shocker on Emmy night.

The night is dark and full of Emmys: ‘Game of Thrones’ will win Best Drama Series, say all 26 Experts
Game of Thrones” has already won more Emmy Awards (47 to be exact) than any other primetime series in TV history, and that number is expected to increase for its final season. According to Gold Derby’s Emmy Experts from major media outlets, one of the trophies HBO’s fantasy epic is predicted to take home on Sept. 22 is Best Drama Series. It’s already won this top category three times, so another victory would tie it with fellow four-timers and record-holders “Hill Street Blues” (1981-84), “L.A. Law”, “The West Wing” (2000-03) and “Mad Men” (2008-11).

Simply ‘Marvelous’! Amazon’s ‘Mrs. Maisel’ predicted to win Best Comedy Series by 5 Emmy Experts

  • Gold Derby
Just last month, four of Gold Derby’s Emmy Experts from major media outlets predicted a Best Comedy Series victory for Amazon’s “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.” Now that number has increased to five (out of 26). New Emmy prognosticator Jazz Tangcay (Awards Daily) has joined Ed Martin (Media Village), Mary Murphy (Gold Derby), Nikki Novak (Fandango) and Susan Wloszczyna (Gold Derby) in predicting the hour-long dramedy to take home a second consecutive trophy on September 22.

As a reminder, three-time Emmy champ “Veep” was not eligible last year because of Julia Louis-Dreyfus‘ cancer treatment, and 1950s-set “Maisel” took advantage of that opening by winning Best Comedy Series on its first at-bat. The program stars Rachel Brosnahan as the titular housewife-turned-stand-up-comedian and is nominated for a jaw-dropping 20 nominations, more than any other comedy series this year.

‘Barry’ upset in the making? 1 rogue Emmy Expert predicts it’ll win Best Comedy Series

Emmy Expert Ben Travers (Indiewire) is going rogue in his Best Comedy Series predictions, as he’s the only one with HBO’s “Barry” in his #1 position. Is he right that an Emmy upset could be in the making? Last year this hitman-turned-actor show took home three Emmy Awards: Best Comedy Actor (Bill Hader), Best Comedy Supporting Actor (Henry Winkler) and Best Half-Hour Sound Mixing. Now “Barry” is hoping to improve upon that total with its jaw-dropping 17 nominations, more than any other comedy series besides “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” at 20 bids.

Oh no! 4 Emmy Experts now think Jodie Comer will triumph over her ‘Killing Eve’ costar Sandra Oh
Over the past three weeks Jodie Comer‘s Emmy chances have essentially doubled for Best Drama Actress, according to Gold Derby’s Experts from major media outlets. Back then only two Emmyologists were predicting the “Killing Eve” breakthrough star to prevail, but now that number has jumped to four. Of course, the BBC America show’s other leading lady Sandra Oh continues to dominate the category with the backing of a whopping 16 Experts, up from 13 last we checked.

Billy Porter (‘Pose’) skyrockets past Bob Odenkirk, Jason Bateman in Emmy Experts’ predictions for Best Drama Actor
A few weeks ago Gold Derby’s Emmy Experts from major media outlets were split over who’d win the 2019 race for Best Drama Actor, with Billy Porter (“Pose”) and Bob Odenkirk (“Better Call Saul”) each backed by six pundits and Jason Bateman (“Ozark”) supported by four prognosticators. Since then more Experts have chimed in and the established ones have updated their predictions, and things are looking quite good for Porter. In fact, he’s skyrocketed past the competition and is now the pick to win of an even dozen Emmyologists. The category is … #winning!

23 out of 25 Emmy Experts predict Julia Louis-Dreyfus (‘Veep’) will win Best Comedy Actress: What about the other 2?
Talk about no guts, no glory. Of Gold Derby’s 25 Emmy Experts from major media outlets, two dare to go against the grain by not predicting a victory for Julia Louis-Dreyfus (“Veep”). Jld has claimed six consecutive trophies (2012-17) for her role as Vice President-turned-President Selina Meyer on HBO’s political laffer, a record in Best Comedy Actress, so a seventh would be icing on the cake for the recent cancer survivor. So what about the other two prognosticators? Robert Rorke (New York Post) predicts an upset for Phoebe Waller-Bridge (“Fleabag”) while Ed Martin (Media Village) opts for Rachel Brosnahan (“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”).

Emmy Experts anoint Bill Hader (‘Barry’) as Best Comedy Actor front-runner, but it’s not unanimous
Gold Derby’s Emmy Experts from major media outlets believe we’ll all see a TV repeat this year in Best Comedy Actor, as Bill Hader is the overwhelming front-runner to win his second consecutive trophy for playing hitman-turned-actor Barry Block on HBO’s “Barry.” However, our group of 24 prognosticators aren’t unanimous in their thinking, as Michael Douglas (“The Kominsky Method”), Ted Danson (“The Good Place”) and Eugene Levy (“Schitt’s Creek”) also receive fair support.

All 22 Emmy Experts predict ‘Game of Thrones’ will win Best Drama Series 2019: But what’s in 2nd place?
This is what we call a landslide. All of Gold Derby’s Emmy Experts are confident “Game of Thrones” is about to tie the four-time record for Best Drama Series that’s currently held by “Hill Street Blues” (1981-84), “L.A. Law”, “The West Wing” (2000-03) and “Mad Men” (2008-11). That’s right — there’s not a single outlier in the bunch that thinks anything else can prevail on September 22, but there’s slightly good news for BBC America’s “Killing Eve” as that has the most #2 votes from our pundits.

Now 5 Emmy Experts predict ‘Fleabag’ will win Best Comedy Series 2019: Watch out, ‘Veep’!

Check this out. Just two weeks ago only one of Gold Derby’s Emmy Experts from major media outlets predicted a Best Comedy Series victory for Amazon’s “Fleabag.” Now that number has jumped up to five (out of 23). Joining Robert Rorke (New York Post) are fellow pundits Jen Chaney (Vulture), Debbie Day (Rotten Tomatoes), Joyce Eng (Gold Derby) and Kaitlin Thomas (TVGuide.com). What might this mean for front-runner “Veep”?

Phoebe Waller-Bridge‘s series based on her one-woman show exploded in nominations for its second season, receiving 11 total after being completely snubbed back in 2017 for its debut episodes. Not only is Waller-Bridge nominated at the Emmys for starring in the comedy, but she received another for writing the show’s Season 2 premiere and two more for producing both “Fleabag” and “Killing Eve.”

Emmy Experts predict Best Limited Series 2019: ‘When They See Us’ will make history for Netflix

Streaming giant Netflix has yet to win a series trophy at the Emmy Awards, but that could all change this year if Gold Derby’s Experts are correct. Fifteen of these 20 prognosticators from major media outlets believe that “When They See Us” will claim victory for Best Limited Series on September 22. Ava DuVernay‘s intimate look at the 1989 Central Park jogger case, which delves into the investigations, the trials, the incarcerations and the ultimate releases of who are now known as the Exonerated 5, streamed on May 31, the final day of eligibility for the 2019 Emmys.

How Jharrel Jerome (‘When They See Us’) and Jared Harris (‘Chernobyl’) leaped over 3 Oscar champs in our Emmy odds
Before the Emmy nominations were announced it looked like the top contenders for Best Movie/Mini Actor were Oscar champs Mahershala Ali (“True Detective”) and Sam Rockwell (“Fosse/Verdon”), with Hugh Grant (“A Very English Scandal”) and Oscar winner Benicio Del Toro (“Escape at Dannemora”) right behind them. All four of them made the cut, but now that we’re predicting the winners, it looks like a battle between Jharrel Jerome (“When They See Us”) and Jared Harris (“Chernobyl”). So what changed?

We thought Jerome would actually miss out on an Emmy nomination by a hair: he ranked seventh in our nomination odds. That may be because he’s not as well known as some of his competitors and his screentime in “When They See Us” as wrongly convicted Korey Wise is so back-loaded — his big showcase episode comes at the very end. Would enough voters make it all the

Emmy Experts predict Best Comedy Actress 2019: Yep, Julia Louis-Dreyfus will go 7-for-7 for ‘Veep’
So far Julia Louis-Dreyfus has been unbeatable in Best Comedy Actress for her role as Vice President-turned-President Selina Meyer on HBO’s “Veep,” and our Emmy Experts don’t think that will change for her show’s final season. Louis-Dreyfus won six consecutive acting Emmys for the political laffer (2012-17) in addition to three for producing the Best Comedy Series champ (2015-17). (“Veep” took off last year because of the actress’s cancer battle.) Previously Louis-Dreyfus won for her roles on “Seinfeld” (1996) and “The New Adventures of Old Christine” (2006), bringing her career tally to — gasp — 11 Emmy Awards.

Hader had previously won an Emmy for producing “South Park” (2009), but last year’s “Barry” victory was his first for acting. Tony Shalhoub (‘Maisel’) leapfrogs Alan Arkin (‘Kominsky’) in our Emmy Experts’ predictions for Best Supporting Actor
Before the Emmy nominations were announced on July 16 Alan Arkin (“The Kominsky Method”) was the odds-on favorite to win Best Comedy Supporting Actor, but not anymore, at least not according to the Expert journalists we’ve surveyed from major media outlets. Tony Shalhoub (“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”), who was ranked fourth in our nominations forecasts, has now taken the lead. So what changed?

As of this writing eight Experts are picking Shalhoub: Thelma Adams (Gold Derby), Joyce Eng (Gold Derby), Chris Harnick (E!), Matthew Jacobs (Huffington Post), Robert Rorke (New York Post), Kaitlin Thomas (TVGuide.com), Peter Travers (Rolling Stone) and Susan Wloszczyna (Gold Derby).

While Billy Porter (“Pose”) and Bob Odenkirk (“Better Call Saul”) lead the field in terms of our Experts’ predictions, Jason Bateman (“Ozark”), Kit Harington (“Game of Thrones”) and Milo Ventimiglia (“This Is Us”) also have their fair share of support. Emmy Experts predict Best Drama Actress 2019: Sandra Oh is ‘killing’ the competition, but it’s not unanimous
Thirteen Emmy Experts can’t be wrong … right? According to a leading baker’s dozen prognosticators from major media outlets, the 2019 Emmy race for Best Drama Actress will end with Sandra Oh (“Killing Eve”) crossing the finish line on September 22.
