Wrote three books of humor: "Lazlo Letters: The Amazing Real-Life Actual Correspondence of Lazlo Toth, American!," "Citizen Lazlo! The Lazlo Letters Volume 2," and "From Bush to Bush: The Lazlo Toth Letters". These all consisted of letters written to various companies, politicians, and others from the mythical Lazlo Toth, and the serious replies they received.

Novello's sister-in-law is former Surgeon General Dr. Antonia Novello.
Co-wrote with John Belushi the unfilmed script, "Noble Rot," which Belushi was set to star in.
He once visited the Vatican in his costume for his character "Father Guido Sarducci" and was arrested by the Swiss Guards for "impersonating a priest" after he took several photographs in an area where photography is prohibited. The charges were later dropped, but the incident made news around the world. Novello later joked about the affair, suggesting that he might go to Utah and see if he could be arrested for impersonating a member of the Osmond family.
His brother Joe Novello is a Psychologist in Washington, DC, who is married to the former Surgeon General Dr. Antonia Novello.
Filed to run for Governor of California, but did not complete all necessary paperwork
