London Critics’ Circle Film Awards: ‘Three Billboards’ wins 3 including Best Picture, Timothee Chalamet in Best Actor upset

London Critics’ Circle Film Awards: ‘Three Billboards’ wins 3 including Best Picture, Timothee Chalamet in Best Actor upset
“Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri” won three of its leading seven bids at the London Critics’ Circle Film Awards on Sunday (Jan. 28), including Best Picture. While Martin McDonagh lost the Best Director race to Sean Baker (“The Florida Project”) he did win for his script. And his leading lady, Frances McDormand, picked up another prize on her seemingly inevitable march to the Oscars. (See the full list of winners below).

However, Gary Oldman (“Darkest Hour”) hit a bump in the road as he lost Best Actor to one of his Oscar rivals — Timothee Chalamet (“Call Me By Your Name”) — and the award for British or Irish actor of the year to another, Daniel Kaluuya (“Get Out”). Oscar hopeful Sally Hawkins (“The Shape of Water”) won that homegrown award on the distaff side. And “Dunkirk” claimed Best British/Irish Film over, among others, “Three Billboards.”

Cool Videos: John Wick 2 stunt coordinator breaks down badass car chase

  • JoBlo
While I was lukewarm about John Wick, I loved the hell out of John Wick 2. It was bigger, badder, and much more brutal. The stunt work, thus, followed suit. One of the coolest sequences was the opening car chase where Wick takes on all those Russian mob goons, just to initiate a truce. Well, if you wondered how they did that, you're in luck, as Darrin Prescott, the stunt coordinator and second unit director breaks... Read More...

Great Job, Internet!: John Wick 2’s stunt coordinator would be the best career day speaker

If you’re a fan of the John Wick franchise, you can direct a lot of your enthusiastic, whole-armed applause toward Darrin Prescott. He’s the defiantly calm man behind the maniacal, adrenaline-fueled stunts in both John Wick movies. In a new video from Vanity Fair, Prescott breaks down John Wick 2’s opening car chase with the same casual ease an accountant might explain their job to a class of freshman on career day—but it’s doubtful anyone would nod off for this.

The eight-minute video shows Prescott using an interactive monitor to literally draw your attention to the myriad ways in which he cleverly destroys beautiful vehicles. You get to see how they shot a “car gangbang,” took their best guess as to how hard to slam a car sideways into a building, and sent a motorcycle careening toward the camera. At one point Prescott methodically explains

“Oh my god, you’re never prepared for what it feels like to go that fast around the corner and it was incredible,” said Wright in an interview with IndieWire. “That’s the thing — in terms of sitting there as a director, this is what I want the viewers to feel like when they are watching it.” That commitment has yielded one of the best-directed pieces of action filmmaking in years, but pulling it off was no easy feat.

Win Passes to the Advance Screening of Baby Driver In St. Louis

“He’s a good kid, and a devil behind the wheel.”

That’s Baby (Ansel Elgort), an innocent-looking getaway driver who gets hardened criminals from point A to point B, with daredevil flair and a personal soundtrack running through his head. That’s because he’s got his escape route plotted to the beat of specific tunes that go from his well-curated iPod straight to his ears, and which translate into expertly timed hairpin turns, gear shifts and evasive maneuvers that leave his passengers on the ride of their lives.

Which makes Baby Driver, with its mixture of mph and music, the newest explosion of genre-crossing excitement from writer-director Edgar Wright, an action thriller unlike any other.

Wamg invites you to enter for the chance to win Two (2) seats to the advance screening of Baby Driver on June 21st in the St. Louis area.

A ‘John Wick’ Masterclass with director Chad Stahelski

Chad Stahelski Interview: The John Wick: Chapter Two director talks us through the film.

John Wick: Chapter Two launches in cinemas today. The film continues the story started in John Wick and follows our eponymous hitman now that he is out of retirement. It really is a fantastic sequel, equal to, if not better than, the first.

We were lucky enough to speak to the director of the film Chad Stahelski and he gave us an incredible amount of insight into all stages of the production. Here he talks through everything you could possibly want to know about the production. Be warned, there are spoilers below:

On Getting the Right Guy…

Don’t tell Keanu cause he’ll shit, but Keanu’s very talented. This doesn’t really work – the gun-fu, the long takes – it only works when you got the guy. Every action movie has the scene

Interview: Talking ‘Gun-Fu’ and ‘Car-Fu’ with John Wick: Chapter 2 director Chad Stahelski

Thomas Harris chats with John Wick: Chapter 2 director Chad Stahelski about all things ‘gun-fu’ and ‘car-fu’…

I left John Wick: Chapter 2 with a bloody nose and a limp that refuses to be shaken off. It’s a ballet of bullets, a grand opera of all things “fu.” Alongside a few others, I had the pleasure of talking with director and veteran stunt man Chad Stahelski about Keanu, Chan and forcing friends to fall downstairs.

Was That The Most Difficult Scene (an opening sequence involving a “gang bang of cars” as Wick attempts to steal back his own) To Coordinate?

Actually no, it was pretty easy. When you come from that background-one of my best friends Darren Prescott, our stunt coordinator for that-we started doing stunt work way back in 1992 and he did a lot of the Bourne films.

Simon Brew Feb 6, 2017

Gerard Butler is to headline a new action movie by the name of Snow Ponies...

Whilst work continues developing a third film in the Olympus Has Fallen series, Gerard Butler is set to busy himself in a new action movie, Snow Ponies. Snow Ponies tells the story of seven hardened men (it says here), as they travel across an unpleasant terrain to deliver a package. No idea what the package is, and seemingly, neither do they.
