A whole host of talented actresses is joining Cate Blanchett in Mrs. America, the story of the Equal Rights Amendment.

The story of the proposed Equal Rights Amendment (Era) to the United States Constitution is a long, fascinating, and as of right now: still incomplete one.

Now FX is going to be bringing the story of the Era's beginnings in the 1970s to television and they're getting a major assist from a big star. In the show, titled Mrs. America, Cate Blanchett will star as real life figure and conservative Era opponent Phyllis Schlafly. The series will follow the women of the era and how the culture wars of the '70s changed the political landscape forever. This will be Blanchett's first role on American television.

Why Real Housewives Is Good for Feminism, According to Roxane Gay

Bravo's The Real Housewives franchise is many things. It's entertainment, it's escapism, it's a sociological experiment—and it's not bad for feminism, according to Roxane Gay. When asked to counter Gloria Steinem's argument about Real Housewives not being great for women, Gay who was on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen alongside Real Housewives of Atlanta star Cynthia Bailey, said while she respects Steinem, she really disagrees. "I think that the Real Housewives franchises allow women to be their truest selves. We see the mess, we see their amazing friendships and everything in between," Gay said. "When women are allowed to be their fullest selves, that's the most...

‘What The Constitution Means To Me’ Broadway Review: Heidi Schreck’s Brilliant Lesson In Life & Civics

‘What The Constitution Means To Me’ Broadway Review: Heidi Schreck’s Brilliant Lesson In Life & Civics
The impulse to tear down and start over, as ancient as we are, occasionally makes a bigger noise of itself than usual. World War I, that was a loud one. Sacco and Vanzetti, loud. The Sex Pistols, really loud. The noise was so loud in 2016 it handed the earth’s most important job to a reality TV host who’d distilled the impulse into a catchphrase, and just might get so loud in 2020 that “You’re Fired!” comes back to haunt him.

All of which is to say, Heidi Schreck has crazy perfect timing. A playwright and performer whose indelible, subversive and audaciously funny What The Constitution Means To Me opens tonight on Broadway at the Helen Hayes Theatre, Schreck has carried a particular true-life story within her for 30-odd years, and she springs it on us when we need it most.

Vice Media Agrees to Pay $1.875 Million to Settle Lawsuit Over Gender Pay Disparity

Vice Media has agreed to pay $1.875 million to settle a class-action lawsuit filed by female employees who said that the company underpaid women in their workforce, according to a court filing submitted Monday to a Los Angeles Superior Court judge.

The company has maintained that there was never any centralized gender pay disparity but agreed in mediation to the payout to past female employees, who is around 675 people.

The suit was brought by Elizabeth Rose, who worked with Vice as a project manager from 2014-2016, and argued that Vice’s practice of relying on past salary data to determine how to pay current employees had resulted in unfair and systemic underpayment for women at the company. Rose and other plaintiffs said Vice’s pay practices violated New York and California labor laws.

“I have noticed, of course, now that it’s in fashion there are other people that are jumping on board, and honestly, I don’t care what their motives are,” Chastain tells Variety. “Because at the end of the day, the more we focus on creating opportunities for everyone — I don’t care if some people are doing it because it’s the fashionable thing to do. It’s also the right thing to do.”

Chastain was honored as one of Marie Claire’s Change Makers for its April edition, along with “Selma” director Ava DuVernay and “Crazy Rich Asians” star Constance Wu. The event to celebrate women in the entertainment industry, in partnership with Modern Creation München, took place in West Hollywood Tuesday night.

18 of TV's Most Inspirational Female Friendships

These days, it is beautifully common to see a big band of powerful, influential women marching together and preaching feminism. There is still a weird paradigm, however, in terms of what an "aspirational female friendship" should look like. On the one hand, there is the polished, Instagram-ready friendship we see presented by stars like Taylor Swift and Kim Kardashian. But however pure the friendship behind those alliances may be, they still have an undeniable brand value that makes them feel sort of manufactured. #Squadgoals definitely had its moment, but it tends to apply to long-legged, dressed-to-the-nines snapshots of girlfriends more so than Gloria Steinem giving Ruth Bader Ginsburg a high-five.

No one has a monopoly on feminism, but for all the talk of this being a new heyday for women's representation in the media, it's kind of a bummer to see a commodified, watered-down version of the movement presented as pop culture's mainstream.
