Alexander Skarsgard Recalls Early Gig in Lady Gaga’s ‘Paparazzi’ Video on ‘Fallon’
Alexander Skarsgård made a splash two years ago for his harrowing performance as Perry Wright on the HBO limited series Big Little Lies. But before that role, he was already well-known in two fandoms: the True Blood hive, and Lady Gaga’s Little Monsters.

“I was in L.A. shooting one of my first jobs, which was season one of True Blood,” Skarsgård told Jimmy Fallon on the Tonight Show on Wednesday night. “My friend Jonas Åkerlund…he was going to direct the music video [for Lady Gaga’s “Paparazzi”], and he called and

Did a Norwegian Black Metal Band Inspire the Louisiana Church Burnings?

On Wednesday evening, it was reported that Holden Matthews, the 21-year-old son of a Louisiana sheriff’s deputy, had been arrested in connection with a series of church fires in Louisiana’s St. Landry Parish. Matthews has been charged with three counts of arson of a religious building, which carry a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison per charge.

Although police have yet to reveal a motive, all three of the fires were at historically black churches, which led the NAACP to classify them as hate crimes earlier this week.

Lords of Chaos Review

  • HeyUGuys
Based on “truth, lies and what actually happened”, Polar director Jonas Akerlund’s frenetic and frequently gruelling (but fun) foray into the birth of Norwegian Black Metal is surprisingly side-splitting as well as dark and disturbing. Akerlund shines a light on the scene and some of its key characters in a manner to make it resound as a tale that should be sought out and (maybe) enjoyed by audiences beyond the genre’s reach, but it is definitely not for the faint hearted or those with weak stomachs.

In Oslo 1987, metal band Mayhem are hell-bent on breaking boundaries by upping the ante in the name of their “art” and hope to find a record company/ fan base to embrace them. After their original drummer leaves and lead singer commits suicide, guitarist “Euronymous” (Rory Culkin) adopts avid fan Varg (Emory Cohen) as Mayhem’s new front-man, but Varg’s passion and

Lords of Chaos

Writer/director (and former Bathory drummer) Jonas Åkerlund’s new black metal murder dramedy Lords of Chaos has really stuck with this critic since I first saw it two weeks ago. The controversial true crime tale has plenty to say about the lives of fringe musicians, the dangers of toxic masculinity and groupthink, and the tenuous nature of friendships amidst creative partnerships — all wrapped up in an irresistible tragicomic package. Chaos is currently available on demand and in limited theatrical release stateside.

Lords of Chaos, adapted from the 1998 nonfiction book Lords of Chaos: The Bloody Rise of the Satanic Metal Underground from authors Michael Moynihan and Didrik Søderlind, unpacks an insane true story that has become legend in extreme metal lore: the church-burning, murder- and suicide-filled misadventures of a group of angry young Norwegian men that nicknamed themselves “The Black Circle.”

Three of the central musical figures in this grisly

‘Lords of Chaos’ Review: Dir. Jonas Åkerlund (2019)

Lords of Chaos review: Get ready for an unsettling watch as Norwegian Black Metal’s dark history gets an airing in this polarising new feature film from Jonas Åkerlund.

Arrow Films

Based on truth, lies, and what really happened. These words make up the opening text to Lords of Chaos. They’re very similar to the opening statement in I, Tonya, but that is where the similarities end. Where I, Tonya had a very tongue-in-cheek, knowing vibe, Lords of Chaos appears much more serious. Our story tells of events that happened with black metal band Mayhem in Norway during the late eighties and early nineties.

The truth is that one of the band’s lead singers, Pelle Olmin, better known as Dead, committed suicide and several years later guitarist Øystein Aarseth was murdered by another former band member, Varg Vikernes. The group were also linked to a spate of violent crimes and church arson attacks.

Bo Report: ‘Stan & Ollie’ not so jolly as ‘Alita: Battle Angel’ wins again

Stan & Ollie

British audiences embraced Stan & Ollie, not least because the charming biopic of comic duo Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy is set in the UK, while Us moviegoers were far less enthused.

Australians’ sentiments towards the comedic drama starring Steve Coogan and John C Reilly seem somewhere in the middle, judging by its fourth-ranked opening last weekend.

Fox’s Alita: Battle Angel easily retained top spot in its second weekend but is not performing at the level here or internationally which the studio needs to recoup the $US170 million production budget and hefty marketing costs.

Mindblowing Films’ Bollywood adventure comedy Total Dhamaal began brightly but there were minimal contributions from the other openers including Umbrella’s Lords of Chaos and Madman Entertainment’s Vox Lux.

Umbrella launched Nicholas Wrathall’s feature documentary Undermined: Tales From The Kimberley on limited sessions at eight cinemas, fetching a modest $19,000 including previews.

Border (Ali Abbasi)

“I have love in me the likes of which you can scarcely imagine and rage the likes of which you would not believe. If I cannot satisfy the one, I will indulge the other.” At a glance, you might conclude that that line from Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein has provided the foundations for pretty much every decent monster movie since James Whale adapted the text back in 1931; perhaps even before. This delightfully grungy and ethereal contemporary horror from Iranian-born, Denmark-based Ali Abbasi concerns a romance between two creatures who happen to be feeling out those opposite warring sides. One is attempting to satisfy a
