The zombie apocalypse comes to the Midlands in this gore-filled comedy about two pairs of friends who find themselves escaping the carnage on a painfully slow canal boat from an infected Birmingham to the supposed safe haven of London. Zombie invasions may be a well-trodden premise but the writer and director, Adam Miller, uses meta-references to his advantage, turning the 30-minute show into a crossover between a wry sitcom and a fast-paced first-person shooter. Zombie Comedy ‘Zomboat!’ Sets Sail for ITV and Hulu

The zombie apocalypse is coming to the U.K. and will be seen on British and U.S. TV after ITV and Hulu greenlit “Zomboat!” The upcoming comedy will star Leah Brotherhead (“White Gold”), Hamza Jeetooa (“Doctor Who”), Ryan McKen (“White Dragon”), and Cara Theobold (“Downton Abbey”). It will bow on the ITV2 channel this fall and then on Hulu.

The story follows the aftermath of a zombie onslaught being unleashed on the British city of Birmingham. Sisters Kat and Jo, together with unlikely travel companions Sunny and Amar, flee for their lives, by canal boat.

As they journey along the canal in their tightly packed living quarters, friendships develop, alliances form, arguments occur and romance blossoms. Along the way, they realize there is no escaping the problems of everyday life, even in a zombie apocalypse.

Hulu & ITV2 Set Sail On Zombie Apocalypse Comedy ‘Zomboat!’

Hulu and ITV have partnered on a new zombie apocalypse comedy set on a canal boat in Birmingham, England.

The digital platform and youth skewing network ITV2 have ordered Zomboat!, a six-part comedy from ITV-owned Noho Film & Television, the company behind Prime Suspect 1973 and Channel 4 royal comedy The Windsors.

The series will launch on ITV2 this autumn and on Hulu later this year. It marks the latest collaboration between the two companies, which previously partnered on period prostitution drama Harlots.

It stars White Gold’s Leah Brotherhead, Doctor Who’s Hamza Jeetooa, White Dragon’s Ryan McKen and Downton Abbey’s Cara Theobold with Line of Duty and Black Mirror: Bandersnatch’s Rochenda Sandall guest starring.

Created by The Windsors and Flack writer Adam Miller and Will Hartley, who starred on BBC1’s Tracey Breaks The News alongside Tracey Ullman, the pair write alongside Please Like Me’s Liz Doran.

NBCUniversal Entering The Streaming Wars With 2020 Launch Of Bonnie Hammer-Run Service; Mark Lazarus, Jeff Shell Also Get Major Promotions

NBCUniversal will enter the streaming wars with a service launching in early 2020 that will be run by longtime cable chief Bonnie Hammer.

Along with the streaming news, the company set a top-level executive reorganization that gives Mark Lazarus and Jeff Shell significant promotions.

Lazarus will have the title of Chairman, NBCUniversal Broadcast, Cable, Sports and News, adding oversight of the cable entertainment portfolio as well as NBC News, MSNBC and CNBC. Shell will be Chairman, NBCUniversal Film and Entertainment, putting NBCEntertainment, International and Telemundo on his plate after previously focusing more on film operations. In coordination with the Shell move, Donna Langley has been promoted to become sole Chairman, Universal Filmed Entertainment Group, taking on Global Theatrical Distribution and Home Entertainment.
