‘A Quiet Place’ Sequel Moves Ahead Two Months to March 2020

  • Variety
Paramount Pictures has moved its sequel to “A Quiet Place” ahead by two months from May 15 to March 20, 2020.

John Krasinski is returning to direct the still-untitled movie with Emily Blunt, Millicent Simmonds and Noah Jupe reprising their roles. Cillian Murphy is joining the cast.

A Quiet Place” grossed $340 million at the global box office last year. Blunt won the Screen Actors Guild Award in the supporting actress category for her role in the horror-thriller. Krasinski also wrote the screenplay with Bryan Woods and Scott Beck, and the trio received a Writers Guild nomination in the original category.

Krasinski directed and starred in the story of an isolated family of four that must live in silence while hiding from creatures that hunt by sound. “A Quiet Place” premiered at SXSW and the 2020 edition of the festival launches on March 16, four days before the sequel opens.

Paramount also announced Friday that it

‘A Quiet Place 2’ Going Earlier In 2020, ‘Playing With Fire’ Takes Over ‘Sonic’s November Spot: Paramount Release Date Changes

  • Deadline
Paramount is moving up John Krasinski’s A Quiet Place 2 from its first announced May 15, 2020 date to March 20, 2020.

The new release date brings the sci-fi horror thriller back to the original’s spring launchpad. A Quiet Place made its world premiere at SXSW last year and opened roughly a month later on April 6, to outstanding $50.2M and ending its domestic run at $188M, $340.9M global — a complete surprise.

A Quiet Place 2 leaves behind Warner Bros. Scoob on May 15, 2020 and will share the marquee on March 20, 2020 with Lionsgate’s I Still Believe.

After Sonic the Hedgehog moved from Nov. 8 to Feb. 14, 2020 this morning, Paramount has filled that hole with Andy Fickman’s Playing With Fire starring Judy Greer, John Cena, John Leguizamo, and Brianna Hildebrand. Pic’s original date was what A Quiet Place 2 has now. The feature we hear is ready and a good family film for the date.

Is The Suicide Squad a Sequel or Reboot? James Gunn Won't Say Yet

Is The Suicide Squad a Sequel or Reboot? James Gunn Won't Say Yet
James Gunn isn't prepared to tell us if The Suicide Squad is a reboot or not, but he may have a very good reason for that. The filmmaker hopped from the Marvel to the DC train after being fired from his gig directing Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, a gig that he has since been rehired for. In any event, Gunn is now going to be the next person to bring DC's super villain team to the big screen. There's been some confusion about how this movie is going to be positioned and, as far is Gunn is concerned, we're just going to have to wait and see for ourselves when it comes out.

BrightBurn is set to hit theaters this weekend, which James Gunn serves as a producer on. He's been making the rounds to help promote it and, during a recent interview, he was asked specifically whether

‘Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader?’ Revival Gets Premiere Date On Nickelodeon

The series that made some parents blush and their kids beam is coming back to wreak more havoc at the dinner table. Nickelodeon has set 7 p.m. Monday, June 10, for the premiere of Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? with new host John Cena.

The game show will relaunch with a week-plus of new episodes through June 19 before settling into its regular 7 p.m. Monday slot on June 24. Watch the trailer below.

You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? follows the original premise of kids helping adult contestants put their knowledge to the test with questions taken directly from an elementary school curriculum. But the new format puts the rotating cast of a dozen brainy grade-schoolers in the center of the action. Grown-up contestants must revisit the classroom to answer six questions on a variety of subjects from the first through fourth grade before moving on to the final round,

Michelle Rodriguez confirms Fast & Furious 9 return

Back in 2017, Michelle Rodriguez raised questions about her continued involvement in the Fast & Furious franchise, stating that she was disappointed by the series’ representation of its female characters and that: “I hope they decide to show some love to the women of the franchise on the next one. Or I just might have to say goodbye to a loved franchise.”

A couple of months back, Rodriguez suggested that she was still undecided about a return, but it seems she’s now made up her mind and will indeed be reprising the role of Letty in Fast & Furious 9.

“I felt like there was not enough of a female voice in the franchise,” said Rodriguez at the Bloomberg Future of Equality Summit in London (via Collider), revealing that she has agreed to return in exchange for an as-yet-unrevealed female writer being brought in to the franchise. “You should evolve with the times,

Kimmel Is Still King

Michelle Rodriguez's Letty Will Return in Fast and Furious 9

Michelle Rodriguez's Letty Will Return in Fast and Furious 9
Fear not, as Michelle Rodriguez has confirmed her return as Letty in Fast & Furious 9. This has been something of a big question mark for some time. In 2017, the actress, who has been part of the franchise from the very beginning, made it clear that she wasn't going to return unless the producers were willing to "show some love to the women of the franchise on the next one." So, it's not surprising to learn that her return came under the condition that a female writer be brought on to help pen the upcoming installment.

At the present time, it isn't clear who this female writer is going to be. We learned around this time last year that newcomer Daniel Casey had been tapped to pen Fast and Furious 9, taking over for longtime series writer Chris Morgan, who is focusing on the upcoming spin-off Hobbs and Shaw as both the writer and producer.

It looks like Michael Rooker is set to be the first Guardians of the Galaxy star to join James Gunn’s DC Extended Universe reboot The Suicide Squad, with The Wrap reporting that Rooker is in talks to portray the character of King Shark.

Rooker’s casting should come as little surprise, given that he’s a good friend of Gunn’s and has worked on all of his directorial efforts (along with several films he’s produced).

If and when the deal closes, Rooker will join a cast that includes the returning Margot Robbie

WarnerMedia Teams With All Elite Wrestling On New Multi-Platform League

WarnerMedia, which already airs a healthy amount of sports, with rights to the NBA, Ncaa basketball and golf, is adding wrestling to the mix through a new partnership with All Elite Wrestling.

The two companies said they are forming the first new wrestling circuit to launch in the past 20 years, with primetime broadcasts planned on TNT, streaming via Bleacher Report’s B/R Live as well as select pay-per-view slots. The announcement was made on the morning of WarnerMedia’s upfront presentation to media buyers in New York.

The venture will kick off May 25 with an event in Las Vegas that is dubbed Double or Nothing.

Eschewing what it called the “scripted, soapy drama” of other wrestling on the air (read: the WWE), All Elite is promising “fast-paced, high-impact competitions” with “more athleticism and real sports analytics.”

Wrestling for decades has been a top-rated attraction with family viewing appeal and

ESPN Programming Boss Had ‘SmackDown’ Talks With WWE, But Says ‘We Couldn’t Find a Fit for It’

ESPN took a “hard look” at WWE’s “SmackDown Live” rights, Burke Magnus tells TheWrap, but the Disney-owned cable channel ultimately couldn’t make a live, 52-week show fit.

“We did talk to WWE during their process some months ago. Took a hard look at it, we’re obviously big fans of them. We just went into business with them on the Xfl indirectly,” the executive vice president of ESPN’s programming and scheduling department told us on Tuesday. “But we couldn’t find a fit for it, primarily based on schedule.”

“As you know, those properties are 52 weeks a year live,” he continued. “And I’m proud to say we have a pretty good problem, which is that we can’t clear anything 52 weeks a year live. We have a pretty full portfolio of content as it is.”

Instead, Fox got the rights and switched the show to Fridays,

Benicio Del Toro in Talks to Play Villain in James Gunn's The Suidice Squad

James Gunn’s cast is coming together nicely for The Suicide Squad, as he has found his number one pick for his first villain. Benicio Del Toro is in talks to come on board the film as a villain under the code name “The Mayor.” The only thing we know at this time is that the character is described as an “irascible old warrior who lives for war.”

Another name that’s been thrown around for the role is Antonio Banderas, so if Del Toro doesn’t pan out, Banderas may end up as the mysterious Mayor.

Whichever guy we end up seeing in the role will join the already cast Margot Robbie, Joel Kinnaman, Idris Elba, David Dastmalchian, John Cena, Jai Courtney, Viola Davis, and Daniela Melchior.

The Suicide Squad is set to hit theaters on August 6, 2021. Are you excited for it? Who would you like to see play the villain?

Fox Upfront Live Blog: NFL, WWE, Terry Bradshaw Controversy & A Lot Of ‘Masked Singer’

  • Deadline
The new Fox Entertainment kicked off its first upfronts presentation Monday at the Beacon Theatre in New York.

At the event last year, Gary Newman quipped that New Fox was so new even he and fellow chairman Dana Walden didn’t know what it was in one of the presentation’s best zingers. A year later, the new iteration of Fox with new leadership in CEO Charlie Collier took the same old stage at the Beacon to give their pitch to advertisers why the newly independent network is a good investment.

As expected, there were heavy NFL plugs — Fox is broadcasting the Super Bowl in 2020 — hype for the arrival of WWE Smackdown Live and a whole lot of Masked Singer mentions.

Here’s how it went down:

‘The Office,’ Rami Malek, Seth Meyers and More: 5 Things We Learned From NBC’s Upfront

  • Variety
NBCUniversal held its 2019-2020 upfront presentation to advertisers on Monday morning at Radio City Music Hall in New York. In touting its new and returning wares for NBC, USA, Syfy, Bravo, Telemundo, E!, and other networks, here are a few things we noticed:

Advertising is good: NBCUniversal opened its 2019 upfront presentation with a montage of the most iconic TV advertising spots of all time — including Coca-Cola’s “I’d Like to Buy the World a Coke,” Wendy’s restaurants’ “Where’s the Beef,” and several from Pepsi. The clip ended with a parody of Apple’s “1984” spot, featuring Jimmy Fallon and John Cena.

The idea, of course, was to flatter the advertisers and media buyers in the audience. It’s a refrain that is expected to be repeated throughout this upfront week, as media companies point out that they’re open for business — unlike most of the major streaming services and premium cable networks.

Rain, Rain Go Away

Ok, so looking at the extended forecast here in New York City, this will also apply to Fox’s presentation from the Beacon Theater this afternoon. Monday was a gross, rainy day in Manhattan and the rest of the tri-state area, making getting anywhere a giant pain. Could have been worse, could have been Sunday’s downpour.

John Cena on a Possible Return to Wrestling: ‘The WWE Does Not Need Me’
John Cena is a busy dude, and if the emerging actor ever truly wants to emulate Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s career progression towards Hollywood leading man, the new host of the Nickelodeon’s new “Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?” knows there are only so many more WWE runs he has left.

But will Cena, who made a surprise cameo appearance to beat up fellow wrestler Elias at last month’s WrestleMania 35, head back to even semi-regular in-ring competition anytime soon?

“That literally depends on the immediate future. There’s a few opportunities that have been set in front of me,” Cena told TheWrap. “If they work out — and I hope they work out — they’ll be wonderful challenges in life and for me to grow as a person, so I’ll more than likely take them. It doesn’t mean that my heart doesn’t lie with WWE.
