Avengers: Endgame Gave Thor’s Body Extra Jiggle In Post-Production

In the recent Avengers: Endgame, Thor sported a radical new look that was a far cry from Chris Hemsworth’s typically ripped appearance. According to co-directors Anthony and Joe Russo, the God of Thunder’s latest design was intended as a reflection of his grief and guilt, following on from his failure to prevent the snap. And going by recent comments from Industrial Light and Magic VFX supervisor Russell Earl, the character’s Big Lebowski-style makeover was very much a group effort.

Speaking to ComicBook.com, Earl recalled how Legacy Effects provided the prosthetic, before his own team made a few final adjustments:

“That was a great prosthetic. He was wearing a prosthetic that I believe Legacy did for his suit. There was a big scene down the back that we cleaned up and then we just cleaned it up in places where it didn’t quite bend right at the elbows and shoulders.

Avengers: Endgame Gave Thor Extra Jiggle in Perfecting His New Look

Avengers: Endgame Gave Thor Extra Jiggle in Perfecting His New Look
Chris Hemsworth went through a pretty drastic transformation for Avengers: Endgame. The God of Thunder was severely depressed in the movie and it began to take its toll physically. As a result, he ended up gaining quite a bit of weight and developed a drinking problem in the process. When Marvel Cinematic Universe fans first saw the character, they were blown away. It was a far cry from the body Hemsworth has in real life. And while the prosthetic was impressive, it needed some extra help.

Industrial Light and Magic VFX supervisor Russell Earl led the team who are responsible for the Avengers: Endgame version of Thor. When it comes down to it, getting some extra padding for Chris Hemsworth just wasn't going to cut it. A prosthetic had to be constructed and then Earl brought his team in to finish off the job. He had this to say.

"That was a great prosthetic.

‘Men In Black: International’ Set To Zap $40M Opening – Early Box Office Projection
Men in Black: International, Sony’s reboot of Men in Black with Thor: Ragnarok thespians Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson, arrived on tracking this morning with a $40 million start. The pic opens June 14.

While lower than the $50M-plus three-day total of the previous Will Smith-Tommy Lee Jones movies, Men in Black: International isn’t being launched over the holiday frames like those pics, and it’s the studio’s means of taking the franchise in a new direction. Whether this film pops further will boil down, natch, to reviews and word of mouth.

The original 1997 Men in Black opened at a time when the star system still worked at the box office, and it was Smith’s subsequent July 4th opener after being crowned the B.O. king of the holiday with 1996’s Independence Day.

Shazam! Star Zachary Levi Would’ve Loved To Play Deadpool

While it may have been eclipsed by the success of Avengers: Endgame, DC’s Shazam! was no slouch in its own right. David F. Sandberg’s take on the 80-year-old superhero was praised for its lighthearted tone and sense of fun, with our very own Matt Donato calling it “hilarious” and “heartfelt” in his review. Critics and fans alike were particularly fond of Zachary Levi’s performance as the eponymous character, and since a sequel is already in development, there’s a good chance moviegoers will get to see Levi on the big screen again.

Since the film’s release, fans have had a myriad of questions about Zachary’s career and last weekend, the actor made an appearance at MegaCon in Orlando, where he hosted his own panel, which featured a Q&A session with convention-goers. Chris Evans’ Old Man Cap Body Double In Avengers: Endgame Revealed

Before Avengers: Endgame hit theaters late last month, Patrick Gorman’s most famous roles came from supporting parts in Gettysburg, Teen Wolf, and Sleepy Hollow. Though his name may not come up as much in conversations about the new films as the likes of Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth or Scarlett Johansson, his appearance is among the most controversial of the mega blockbuster.

Gorman pops up in Endgame right after Steve Rogers goes back in time to place the Infinity Stones exactly where they were taken.

Once the Cap doesn’t return when he’s supposed to, Bucky and Falcon start to get worried. But then they see an old man (Gorman) sitting by a lake close-by. It turns out to be Rogers, who says he decided to stay behind and live a happy life with Peggy Carter; then giving Falcon his iconic shield, he seemingly inaugurates a new Captain America.
