Home Entertainment: ‘Mary Poppins Returns’ Blu-ray Review

It would be quite easy to dismiss a sequel to one of cinema’s most beloved family features some fifty-plus years on from the release of the original, but this is Disney, and they would only push forward and step on hallowed celluloid with a tale worth telling with a team worthy of telling it. Mary Poppins Returns is a modern-day masterpiece that in fifty more years, we could look back on with that same fondness and magical exception in which our generation looks back at the flawless 1964 original.

Disney

Set some twenty-four years after the events of the first movie, Mary Poppins Returns centres once again on the Banks children, Michael (Ben Whishaw) and Jane (Emily Mortimer), now grown up with responsibilities of their own. Michael has three children, Annabel, John and Georgie, but we learn that he has sadly lost his wife a year earlier. Struggling with balancing home and work life,

James Corden Knows the Internet Is Forever and That’s What Makes ‘The Late Late Show’ Great

James Corden Knows the Internet Is Forever and That’s What Makes ‘The Late Late Show’ Great
James Corden understands the internet.

“Nothing’s disposable anymore,” Corden told a crowded auditorium at Saban Media Center at the Television Academy in North Hollywood on April 9, during the Emmys Fyc panel for “The Late Late Show. “Everything lives forever now. So you better make it really great because people are going to find it and see it.”

Specifically, it’s how the Emmy Award-winning late night host explains the show’s never-ending pursuit of greatness – despite its 12:30 A.M. time slot. They want the show to live beyond when it airs and play whenever and wherever people are watching videos.

In the process, “The Late Late Show” has become something far different than its late night ilk, leaning hard on variety and less on talk and making itself a social media staple in the process.

Of course, the incredible star power the “Late Late Show” pulls doesn’t hurt its incomparable viral appeal.

Why ‘Dumbo’ Didn’t Soar at the Box Office

  • Variety
Why ‘Dumbo’ Didn’t Soar at the Box Office
Dumbo” nabbed the top spot at the domestic box office last weekend, but Disney’s latest re-imagining didn’t fly as high as expected. Despite the cast of Colin Farrell, Danny DeVito, and Michael Keaton, the nearly eight-decade old property showed that not every remake is guaranteed to pack a major punch.

Tim Burton’s live-action reboot of the 1941 cartoon collected $45 million from 4,259 venues, falling short of expectations that anticipated a launch north of $50 million. Overseas, the baby elephant with inconveniently large ears got off to a better start, earning $71 million for a global weekend haul of $116 million.

Those numbers hardly signal disaster for the Magic Kingdom, but it does represent the lowest domestic opening yet for one the studio’s re-imaginings of its animated classics. High-profile remakes such as 2017’s “Beauty and the Beast” and 2016’s “The Jungle Book” soared past the $100 million mark in their opening weekends.
