Movie Review – The Secret Life of Pets 2 (2019)

The Secret Life of Pets 2, 2019.

Directed by Chris Renaud.

Featuring the voice talents of Patton Oswalt, Eric Stonestreet, Kevin Hart, Jenny Slate, Ellie Kemper, Lake Bell, Dana Carvey, Hannibal Buress, Bobby Moynihan, Tiffany Haddish, Nick Kroll, Pete Holmes, Henry Lynch, Chris Renaud, and Harrison Ford.

Synopsis:

Continuing the story of Max and his pet friends, following their secret lives after their owners leave them for work or school each day.

There’s very little to say about The Secret Life of Pets 2, which continues Illumination’s depressingly successful formula of pandering to the masses with generic humor and stories designed to keep antsy children sitting still for 90 minutes. It’s hyperactive, bland, listless, and squanders the few intriguing concepts it does bring to the table by burying them under subplots, it’s impossible to become invested. During the climactic chase sequence (which starts out in the most unoriginal depiction

Synopsis:

Continuing the story of Max and his pet friends, following their secret lives after their owners leave them for work or school each day.

Despite arguably proving to be the most anodyne offering from Illumination Entertainment to date, 2016’s The Secret Life of Pets succeeded to the tune of $875 million worldwide, ensuring that a sequel would be loaded onto the animation house’s ruthlessly efficient, mid-budget conveyor belt as soon as possible.

And so, we have The Secret Life of Pets 2, a sequel that’s certainly no worse than its predecessor, but also not much better, and basically just as forgettable.

The story begins with

Illumination Entertainment is known primarily as the studio the Minions built. But it also found a hit in 2016 with The Secret Life of Pets, sold as a sort of Toy Story for domesticated critters. The movie raked in the best part of $900m at the global box office, making a sequel absolutely inevitable. Three years later, the same pets that drove the first film to multiplex success are back, sans the voice of controversial leading man Louis Ck,

Film Review: ‘The Secret Life of Pets 2’

Film Review: ‘The Secret Life of Pets 2’
Illumination’s “The Secret Life Of Pets” films do something the “Despicable Me” studio’s other offerings have yet to accomplish: They allow younger audiences to explore their feelings about new life experiences in a silly, lighthearted way through the travails of adorable animated animals. Despite being an overly loud and caustic clone of “Toy Story,” the first feature showed its target market that it’s perfectly okay to be frustrated about a new sibling joining the family. It gave kids and parents the fundamental tools to work through their difficulties, all with a healthy dose of slapstick.

Director Chris Renaud’s followup, “The Secret Life of Pets 2,” similarly spotlights the trepidation surrounding the arrival of a child. Only now, Renaud and returning screenwriter Brian Lynch deliver a lesson for the parents in the audience. Even though it poaches some themes and narrative structure from yet another Pixar classic

Kate McKinnon Could Be Leaving ‘Saturday Night Live’ at End of Season 44

Kate McKinnon Could Be Leaving ‘Saturday Night Live’ at End of Season 44
Kate McKinnon is an institution on the current version of “Saturday Night Live,” but as the show prepares for its annual summer hiatus, there are early indications that she might be nearing the end of her tenure as a regular.

Variety is reporting that the final episodes of Season 44 could be McKinnon’s last ones as a full-time cast member. As her film and TV career takes off, there are increasing demands on her time which may make a full-time commitment impossible.

One hope for the comedienne’s fans: given the elastic shooting schedule of “SNL,” there’s a chance that even without being part of the show’s opening credits, she could still swing by Studio 8H for the show’s now-regular political sketches. Prior to and since the 2016 presidential election, McKinnon has been one of the cast’s go-to players for headline-themed cold opens, playing everyone from Kellyanne Conway

Emma Stone on ‘SNL’: 3 Sketches You Have to See

Emma Stone on ‘SNL’: 3 Sketches You Have to See
Early in her Saturday Night Live monologue, host Emma Stone asks to check the sound levels on the microphones. “Bts is here!” she casually notes, and the crowd erupts into furious screams of excitement. That was both a cheap way to generate heat but also a not-so-subtle message to the at-home audience that the folks in Studio 8H were there to see a concert first and a sketch comedy show second.

Now, such a warning wasn’t truly necessary, as plenty in-house laughed at the mostly solid material in this week’s installment.

‘Documentary Now!’ EPs On Working With Cate Blanchett: “She Brought A Lot Literally To The Shoot” – The Contenders Emmys

  • Deadline
Speaking at Deadline’s The Contenders Emmys event, Documentary Now! executive producers Rhys Thomas, Alex Buono and Fred Armisen spoke about working with Oscar winner Cate Blanchett. She guest-starred in the third season as a Marina Abramović-type performance artist in the episode titled “Waiting for the Artist,” based on the acclaimed 2012 documentary Marina Abramović: The Artist Is Present.

“It was very much like your fantasy of what it would be like to work Cate Blanchett.” Buono said. “It does not disappoint. Its everything you hope in terms of her preparation, in terms of what she brings to it, in terms of how committed she would be to the role.”

So committed, in fact, that Blanchett, who had met Abramović, brought her own costumes, 13 different wigs and even changed her eye color.

“She brought a lot literally to the shoot,” Armisen added.

The series, which airs on IFC, parodies various documentaries and
