Everything We Know About Ryan Murphy’s Netflix Slate: From ‘The Politician’ to ‘The Prom’
Ryan Murphy is working to earn that reported $300 million Netflix shelled out to sign the prolific producer to an overall deal last year, luring him away from his longtime home at 20th Century Fox Television.

At the Time 100 Summit in April, the “American Horror Story” creator said he has 10 projects in the works at the streaming service: three documentaries, four TV shows and three movies.

While the details about the majority of those films and series are being kept under wraps in the most Murphy-like way, TheWrap has rounded up everything we currently know about the projects that have been formally announced.

See our list below, which we will continue to update as more information becomes available.

"But I feel like we really wrung that material for what it was." 12 years is a long time to do any job, but particularly in the entertainment industry. Jim Parsons on Coming Out and Life After ‘The Big Bang Theory’

Jim Parsons on Coming Out and Life After ‘The Big Bang Theory’
Jim Parsons just stepped away from a 12-year commitment — and is preparing to step into a new yet familiar role. After four Emmys and untold numbers of physics-inflected jokes on “The Big Bang Theory,” Parsons is reprising a part he played on Broadway in 2018. A Netflix adaptation of the drama “The Boys in the Band,” to be executive produced by Ryan Murphy, is slated to start filming in July. It’s a role that comes with some complications for an actor who only just moved from the “Big Bang” home base in Los Angeles to New York.

“No matter how successful you are,” Parsons says, “even if you’re a huge success in movies, you don’t get to check into the same parking space for 12 years. This is not how someone in a creative profession normally gets to behave. Most human beings crave that structure, so I can see

Emmy spotlight: ‘The Kominsky Method’ could bring Chuck Lorre his first-ever victory after 8 nominations

Emmy spotlight: ‘The Kominsky Method’ could bring Chuck Lorre his first-ever victory after 8 nominations
As he accepted his Golden Globe for Best Comedy/Musical Series earlier this year, “The Kominsky Method” creator Chuck Lorre remarked, “This doesn’t happen to me.” And he’s right. Despite producing such mega-hit sitcoms as “The Big Bang Theory,” “Two and a Half Men” and “Mom,” Lorre had never received a major Hollywood award until his latest Netflix comedy came around. Now that he’s been recognized by Globe voters, it’s time for him to be similarly honored by the Emmys.

See Alan Arkin would complete his Triple Crown with an Emmy win for ‘The Kominsky Method

Lorre has competed at the Emmys eight times unsuccessfully: seven in Best Comedy Series and one in Best Music and Lyrics (“Two and a Half Men” in 2004). His shows have won plenty of awards, especially in the acting categories, with Jim Parsons (“Big Bang Theory”), Jon Cryer (“Two and a Half Men

Emmy spotlight:  There’s an ongoing ‘Method’ to Chuck Lorre’s comic male madness with Netflix’s ‘Kominsky’

Emmy spotlight:  There’s an ongoing ‘Method’ to Chuck Lorre’s comic male madness with Netflix’s ‘Kominsky’
There were two reasons I was moved to turn on “The Kominsky Method,” about an acting teacher and his longtime agent, for the first time. Namely, Oscar owners Michael Douglas, 74, and Alan Arkin, 85. Their marvelous edgy rapport and mastery of their art kept me bingeing as their characters yearn for the old days while fighting the ravages of aging. It was similar to what happened when Jane Fonda, 81, and Lily Tomlin, 79, had me devouring “Grace & Frankie.” The fact that legendary stars of this caliber are streaming through the universe and onto screens of all shapes and sizes seems to be a small miracle. Don’t think that the makers of HBO’s “Big Little Lies” didn’t know they had to top the first season’s killer combo of Nicole Kidman, Laura Dern and Reese Witherspoon by reeling in the starriest catch of them all for its second season, Meryl Streep,

BuzzFeed Promotes Cindy Vanegas-Gesuale to Oversee Film and TV Programming

  • The Wrap
BuzzFeed is revamping its studio business by putting Cindy Vanegas-Gesuale, its current head of programming at BuzzFeed News, in charge of its TV and film operations, according to a company memo.

Vanegas-Gesuale replaces Lauren Dolgen, who last month left the company to join the Paramount Network. She’s expected to jumpstart its studio business, which has struggled to create projects that gain much traction since its launch in 2014.

BuzzFeed CEO Jonah Peretti said in a staff memo the move comes as the publisher looks to make a mark on a “post-tv world” that’s increasingly dominated by streaming platforms.

Ryan Murphy Knows ‘Boys in the Band’ Has a Problematic History, That’s Why He’s Bringing It to Netflix

Ryan Murphy Knows ‘Boys in the Band’ Has a Problematic History, That’s Why He’s Bringing It to Netflix
When Ryan Murphy announced he was adapting the Broadway hit “The Boys in the Band” into a movie for Netflix, it raised a few well-coiffed eyebrows. While Mart Crowley’s seminal 1968 play received a successful Broadway revival last year, cast entirely with out gay actors to boot, material that was once groundbreaking is now considered dated by some. The characters in “Boys” are mostly self-loathing and angry, perhaps not the most relevant story to tell today.

Still, many celebrate it as a pioneering work in the Lgbtq canon, worthy of honoring with a revisit. Murphy, the powerhouse television one-man-brand with a giant overall deal at Netflix, understands the criticisms lobbed at the play — but stands firmly in the latter camp.

“I feel like the world needs more Lgbtq history. It just does,” Murphy told IndieWire during an in-person interview in May. “[‘The Boys in the Band’] is a play that

Tony Awards 2019: Who Will Win, Who Should Win

The numbers are in: This Broadway season broke attendance and box-office records (nearly $2 billion), which should really juice up the Tony Awards this year. Why? I’d call it Hollywood heat. Stars of movies, TV and YouTube converged on Broadway this year like never before. Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) and Walter White (Bryan Cranston) are duking it out with Harry Dunne, the diarrhea king from Dumb and Dumber (Jeff Daniels), for the drama prize as Best Actor. It took three actresses to play one Cher in The Cher Show. And

‘The Big Bang Theory’ Finale Pads Stats In Live+7; Show’s Best Number Since 2014

  • Deadline
CBS is out with some final ratings numbers for The Big Bang Theory series finale, and the numbers are serious. The Jim Parsons-fronted comedy ended its 12-season run with 25.75 million total viewers in Live+7 for the episode and a 5.0 rating in the 18-49 demo.

Broken down, that’s a 6.22 million-viewer lift in time-shifted viewing — the fifth-largest seven-day audience in series history and its biggest since January 2014. The demo lift was +1.8, from a 3.2 to a 5.0.

The network noted that Tbbt drew the largest audience for any regularly scheduled entertainment program during the 2018-19 season and slew HBO’s Game of Thrones series finale by nearly 9 million viewers.

CBS said the finale drew 18 million viewers on first count and added 5.4 million in Live+3, per Nielsen Media Research.

In his review of series-finale episode “The Stockholm Syndrome,” Deadline’s Geoff Boucher wrote: “The 279th and final episode of the history-making CBS hit

The Big Bang Theory: 10 Best Penny Quotes

The Big Bang Theory may officially be over, but that doesn't mean we're going to stop quoting the show's signature lines anytime soon. Who hasn't thrown in a "Bazinga" to an argument, or sung Soft Kitty at one point in time? Thankfully, there's always YouTube clips and reruns to help us get through our withdrawals.

While some of the show's biggest catchphrases often come from Sheldon, many of the other characters also get their fair share of one-liners in there, too. Especially when they are talking about Sheldon.

Take Penny, for example. Penny is always good for a laugh. She's the honest, tell-it-like-it-is beauty who thrives off putting the guys in their place. Her thinly veiled insults are often covered by calling that person "Sweetie." Sometimes she makes quips about the guys right to their faces because they genuinely have no idea what she's talking about since they are so

Tony-Nominated Boy In The Band Robin de Jesús Talks About That Starry Cast, Ryan Murphy’s Netflix Plans & Whoopi Goldberg’s Revelatory Advice – Tony Watch Q&A
This summer, The Boys In The Band will add a new chapter to its long life, this time as a Netflix movie. Back will be the camping, the fighting and laughing and crying, a portrait of friendship as both endurance test and saving grace that Mart Crowley got so right more than a half-century ago. Opening Off Broadway in 1968, The Boys In The Band, an unlikely hit about a group of gay New Yorkers that would have been all but unimaginable in 1967, just as William Friedkin’s 1970 film was in ’69, and just as last year’s announcement by producers Ryan Murphy and David Stone that the play would finally makes its Broadway debut was met with not exactly whispered dismissals of stunt casting. The 50th anniversary staging of The Boys In The Band would feature, for the first time in the play’s history,
