Movie Review – Fahrenheit 451 (2018)

Fahrenheit 451, 2018.

Directed by Ramin Bahrani.

Starring Michael B. Jordan, Michael Shannon, Sofia Boutella, Lilly Singh, Khandi Alexander, Mayko Nguyen, and Dylan Taylor.

Synopsis:

In a dystopian future America, firemen don’t put out fires but start them by burning books.

Fahrenheit 451 starts out promisingly. The two leads engage in a stimulating boxing match promising a powerful confrontation in the finale. Instead, the movie turns into a black-and-white morality tale with so-so action scenes and below-average special effects. Aside from a handful of startling scenes, the movie never manages to communicate the dread and fear of the original source material.

Based on the novel of the same name, Fahrenheit 451 has Guy Montag (Michael B. Jordan) experience doubts about his vocation in turning Joyce and the Bible into ashes. Guy is a fireman but in this alternative future firemen don’t put out fires but create them to destroy books. While

Review: ‘Below Her Mouth’ is an Exhilarating, Erotic Tour de Force

Destined to be one of the year’s most provocative releases, April Mullen’s Below Her Mouth is an erotic tour de force of uninhibited filmmaking exploring the nature of intimacy, sexuality, and the female gaze led by two extraordinary performances by Erika Linder and Natalie Krill. Dallas (Linder) is a young roofer making her living in Toronto; early in the film she proves to be emotionally unavailable as she abruptly breaks up with her yuppie girlfriend Joslyn (Mayko Nguyen) and moves out into a studio apartment. While on a job in an upscale neighborhood she encounters Jasmine (Krill), a young fashion editor that’s about to be engaged to Rile (Sebastain Pigott), who by all measures seems to be a decent man, invested in their relationship even if he’s unable to offer the kind of connection and emotional support she longs for.

Killjoys Season 2 Episode 4 Review: Schooled

It was Delle Seyah's turn to resurface this time. Now we know she's in with Khlyen.

Though both those characters seemed like the villains last season, Killjoys Season 2 Episode 4 continued to blur the lines between the good guys and baddies. Yes, Khlyen has done some terrible things, but I no longer think he is the enemy.

I thought the brother angle was touching, and it helped John and D'av bond a bit more.

Watch Killjoys Season 2 Episode 4 Online

Based on the "previously on Killjoys" intro, it was clear Delle Seyah Kendry was back to cause Dutch and the boys some grief. She is one of those characters we just love to hate and Mayko Nguyen plays her to perfection.

The screaming-person-in-a-pod threw me for a moment, because I kept thinking of Khlyen. Last time we saw our favorite silver fox, he was trapped by the Black Root though Level 6 Fancy was at his side.

Denette Wilford: Why I'm Happy For the Return of 'Rookie Blue'

Denette Wilford: Why I'm Happy For the Return of 'Rookie Blue'
William Shatner may be best known for playing Captain Kirk, T.J. Hooker, Denny Crane and the dad that was notorious for saying a whole bunch of shat $#*!, but the actor is out to prove he's more than just his legendary characters (well, three legends and a one-season grump).

The Emmy winner guest-stars on the season 3 premiere of "Rookie Blue" as Henry McLeod, and as ABC's press release describes him, he's "a belligerent drunk driver with a haunting secret." Punching Dov (Gregory Smith) in the face, while reeking of whisky? Definitely. But there's so much more to his character. More on that in a bit.

I've loved "Rookie Blue" since it debuted two years ago. I have a real fondness for the stars, who I've spoken to on numerous occasions (whether it's on location or in a fancy hotel suite), but there's something about the series that makes me proud. Sure,

Against the Wall: Cancelled; No Season Two

Lifetime has decided that neither of its freshman dramas are worthy of a second season. The cable channel cancelled The Protector in September and they've now canned Against the Wall as well.

Against the Wall stars Rachael Carpani as Abby Kowalski, a single cop who joins the Chicago department's internal affairs division. The series' co-stars include Andrew Walker, Brandon Quinn, Chris Johnson, Daniel Kash, James Thomas, Kathy Baker, Marisa Ramirez, Mayko Nguyen, Steve Byers, and Treat Williams.

Debuting on July 31st, the show attracted a mediocre 1.8 million viewers with a 0.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic, about on par with The Protector. Unfortunately, the numbers didn't improve throughout the season. The 12th and 13th episodes (now the show's last) aired on October 23rd. They each drew 1.4 million viewers and 0.4 demo ratings.

Lifetime recently ordered 10 more episodes of

Against The Wall Review – TV – Lifetime

The shows you get out of Lifetime can be pretty hit or miss. That's generally a good thing as far as I'm concerned. You either love Drop Dead Diva, or you hate it, and I for one appreciate the "not for everyone" approach to show design. It's a recipe that gets trickier when you're venturing out into the massively overpopulated world of crime shows though, and Lifetime's new efforts, The Protector and Against the Wall, are faced with a tough road with genre norms butting heads against network image.

Shows focusing on cops and/or crime aren't well-suited to flights of fancy, or niche shtick, like several of Lifetime's other working models, and when people think Lifetime, a network that's going to suck in crime show fans is not exactly what leaps to mind.

I'm still not convinced by Lifetime's effort at balancing things with The Protector.
