Karl Lagerfeld Remembered at Costume Designers Guild Awards
The death of fashion and costume designer Karl Lagerfeld cast somewhat of a shadow over the usually jubilant Costume Designers Guild Awards — the only award show where clothes literally steal the spotlight away from actors — which was held at the Beverly Hilton on Tuesday night. Here it was obvious that Lagerfeld’s impact on Hollywood went far beyond an uncredited cameo in “Zoolander.”

Glenn Close, who was being honored with the spotlight award, recalled her one and only encounter with Lagerfeld. “I’m not deep into the world of fashion, but I did meet him personally on the set of ‘101 Dalmatians’ and we had this incredible photo shoot,” Close said. “He was wonderful — I got along really well with him. And the thing that I find so impressive is that he designed himself, you know? This person with the high collars and the dark glasses and the gloves. It’s like: Wow,

‘Saturday Night Live’ extends record Emmy haul to 72 with Best Variety Sketch Series win
Saturday Night Live” won Best Variety Sketch Series at Monday’s Primetime Emmy Awards, marking the first time the long-running show has defended a series award and extending its record haul to 72, the most of any program.

Though “SNL” has been on the air for 43 years, it has only won three series awards. It took home Best Variety Series in 1976 for its first season and again in 1993 for its 18th season. After the category was split into Best Variety Sketch Series and Best Variety Talk Series in 2015, “SNL” won the former last year for its buzzy, politically charged 42nd installment. It had leading 2/13 odds to repeat this year.

“SNL”‘s 43rd season earned 21 nominations this year, including nine acting bids. It received seven statuettes at last weekend’s Creative Arts Awards, including Best Comedy Guest Actress for Tiffany Haddish.

The show now has a mind-blowing 71 Emmy wins in its 43-year run, way ahead in the all-time record books for any series. The next closest series for the all-time marks held by “Game of Thrones” with 45 and “Frasier” with 37. “SNL” has got three more shots at the primetime ceremony on Monday, September 17, so how many more victories will it achieve to bump up its total haul even more? Costume Designers Vying for Emmy Glory Crafts Garments to Fit Demanding Shows

  • Variety
In TV’s new world of HD cameras, tighter-than-tight deadlines and all-angles shooting, costume designers must strive to withstand the kinds of physical and technological strains that could pull their creations apart.

Whether making a wardrobe for performance shows including ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars,” NBC’s “The Voice” or VH1’s “RuPaul’s Drag Race”; for sketch comedies such as NBC’s “Saturday Night Live”; or scripted dramas like Netflix’s “A Series of Unfortunate Events,” costume designers must contend with HD and what it means for their color and fabric choices.

“Purple is a perfect example of how HD can affect what you’re doing because it’s a mixture of red and blue so you don’t really know how it’s going to look on camera, and we don’t do camera tests because there’s no time, and sometimes we get a request for

‘Saturday Night Live’ Accused by Comedians of Stealing Jokes and Being Homophobic
Comedian James Adomian accuses “Saturday Night Live” of being homophobic to gay men and stealing jokes in a new interview with The Daily Beast. Adomian, an out gay comedian best known for his celebrity impressions and for appearances on “Comedy Bang! Bang!” and “Chicago Trap House,” auditioned for the NBC sketch comedy series 13 years ago and did not get cast. According to The Daily Beast, the show has only had one openly gay male cast member, Terry Sweeney, who was on the series during the 1985-1986 season.

“It would be nice if they put a gay man on camera on that show,” Adomian said, “I’ve been out of the closet the whole time since I auditioned 13 years ago. You would think that they would have tried to put someone else on that was a gay man. It’s about time.”
