Photo Flash: The Boys Are Back In Town! First Look at Jersey Boys at New World Stages

Jersey Boys is the behind-the-music story of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons. They were just four guys from Jersey, until they sang their very first note. They had a sound nobody had ever heard and the radio just couldn't get enough of. But while their harmonies were perfect on stage, off stage it was a very different story -- a story that has made them an international sensation all over again. The show features all their hits including Sherry, Big Girls Don't Cry, Oh What A Night, Walk Like A Man, Can't Take My Eyes Off You and Working My Way Back To You.

Jessie J Releasing Cover Of “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You”

Jessie J is getting back into action in terms of new music. After releasing her third full-length, Sweet Talker, back in 2014, she’s been a bit quiet aside from her Pitch Perfect 2 song, “Flashlight” and Ice Age contribution, “My Superstar.” While there isn’t a new album just yet, she’s still going to be releasing something new in the coming days in the form of a cover.

According to AllMusic, Jessie J is set to release a cover of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons’ classic, “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You,” in partnership with a new campaign from make-up company, Make Up For Ever. Sure, it’s a little more corporate than we’d want, but is there really ever any room to complain about new Jessie J songs? It’s a bit of an interesting track to take on, too, but if you listen to the original,

Who Needs to Write a Book for Cher’s Upcoming Musical When Her Tweets Could Win a Tony?
A musical based on pop icon and Twitter maven Cher is coming your way, Playbill reports. Rick Elice, Tony-nominated co-librettist of Jersey Boys, is writing the book for a musical based on Cher, which will presumably include her own music just as Jersey Boys did with Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. But do we really need someone to write a book to Cher's musical when she's proven her wordsmith abilities on Twitter? Mix in her tweets as the book and her classic hits and you've got yourself a Tony winner.Prologue A haunting flash-forward, sung by a Greek-like chorus of Cher's career to come. Act One Cher, lonely, searches for love. She finds Sonny. Love turns tumultuous. Ultimately, it ends in divorce. Act Two She's embarking on her solo journey. She finds rivalries. She finds activism. But, and maybe this is the most important part, she'd end her story

Summer Film Budgets vs. Total Worldwide Grosses

Summer Film Budgets vs. Total Worldwide Grosses
While studios tout records, market share and No. 1 status based on box office grosses, we thought it’d be a good idea to look at some of this year’s summer films (tentpoles and not) to see how their budgets stacked up against their worldwide grosses to date. These budget numbers do not include domestic/international marketing and distribution costs, nor do they take into account the splits with exhibitors, but they do give an idea of outlay and income. Bear in mind, that while some of the biggest offshore grosses come from China, the studios are only getting a 25% cut from that territory. Also, some of these pictures will end up doing well in home entertainment and may make a profit over time — as in, a few years.

Here are some of the films we were able to compile from smallest to highest budgets with worldwide grosses (and percentage

Second Opinion – Jersey Boys (2014)

Jersey Boys, 2014.

Directed by: Clint Eastwood.

Starring: John Lloyd Young, Erich Bergen, Michael Lomenda, Vincent Piazza and Christopher Walken.

Synopsis:

The story of the rise to fame of the iconic band, Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, from their beginning as four friends playing clubs, to their induction to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

The trouble with adaptations, whether it be from a book, a stage show or even from another film, is that you can’t help but compare the two. When you are going to see a film adapted from a behemoth musical masterpiece like Jersey Boys, there is no doubt that you will probably leave the movie feeling slightly disappointed. Unfortunately, this is the case with Jersey Boys. Despite the wealth of talent behind and in front of the camera, there are aspects of the stage show which simply don’t translate to the big screen.

Who’S It For? Eastwood fans to be disappointed, or music fans to be bored.

Overall

In my interview with Paul Haggis for his recently-released film Third Person, the former Oscar-friendly screenwriter brought something to my attention about his working relationship with Clint Eastwood, which I could have guessed, but didn’t know: with Haggis’ scripts like Flags of Our Fathers, Eastwood didn’t ask for any rewrites, and began shooting with a first draft. It explained so much, especially when I finally caught up with Jersey Boys. Eastwood’s stories are as strong as his scripts, his directorial ability to really influence a project as

‘Jersey Boys’ is definitely worth a look and a listen

Jersey Boys

Directed by Clint Eastwood

Written by Marshall Brickman & Rick Elice

USA, 2014

American music history has had its fair share of notable moments. The 1950s and 1960s in particular, were an era in which catchy songs and talented performers reigned supreme. One such group was Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons. These gifted young men were responsible for hit after hit including but not limited to “Sherry”, “Walk Like a Man”, and “Big Girls Don’t Cry”. A highly entertaining Tony Award-winning Broadway musical was created to detail the rise of The Four Seasons and it ran and continues to run, selling tickets to this day about a decade after its debut. It was only a matter of time until a big Hollywood film adaption would follow and it did. Helmed by veteran filmmaker Clint Eastwood, Jersey Boys is now in theaters and ready to transport you back to

Why Clint Eastwood was the wrong choice to direct 'Jersey Boys'

Why Clint Eastwood was the wrong choice to direct 'Jersey Boys'
A Tony-winning musical about a Hall of Fame rock group by an Oscar-winning director—on paper, it sounds like a sure-fire hit. So why did Clint Eastwood’s Jersey Boys fall flat in theaters this weekend?

Simply because Clint Eastwood should have never directed it in the first place.

When Jersey Boys opened on Broadway back in 2005, it broke the mold of the emerging trend of “jukebox musicals”—that is, musicals that repurposed pre-existing songs and placed them into stories—by using the songs of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons that were already loved and adored by millions to tell their own story.

Weekend Box Office Results: Strong Box Office Separates "Man" From the "Boys"

Sony's comedy sequel Think Like a Man Too had no issue overtaking the North American box office this weekend. The comedy earned more than double the amount brought in by fellow newcomer Jersey Boys, which had an off-key debut in fourth place. Last week's champ 22 Jump Street moved down to second place but actual figures may push that film back to number one come tomorrow. Overall, the summer 2014 box office continued to underperform thanks to the ongoing World Cup Soccer matches and a lack of must-see product. The top ten was down 21% from last weekend at this time and a steep 39% from 2013.

Two years ago, the $12 million Think Like a Man became a late-spring sleeper hit, opening to a whopping $33.6 million from 2,015 theaters and a great $91.5 million final tally. Given the popularity of the film's African-American ensemble cast -- in particular comedian Kevin Hart -- and it's large profit scale,

Box Office Results: Think Like a Man Too Tops Slower Summer Weekend

Last week's big box office weekend was followed by a relatively quiet one where only one movie was able to gross $30 million and that was the ensemble comedy sequel Think Like a Man Too which came in at #1 with that amount estimated for its first three days. Director Clint Eastwood returned with the musical drama Jersey Boys (Warner Bros.), based on the story of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. It opened in fourth place with just $13.5 million in 2,905 theaters, an average of $4,647 per site.
