Sarah Huckabee Sanders Leaving White House After Two Years As Press Secretary

 • Deadline
White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders hasn’t held an official news conference in three months, and now she might not do any more. President Donald Trump announced via Twitter today that the woman who took over the podium from Sean Spicer in July 2017 will leave the administration at month’s end.

The presidential tweets hinted that Sanders someday might run for governor of Arkansas, a job her father Mike Huckabee held from 1996-2007:

….She is a very special person with extraordinary talents, who has done an incredible job! I hope she decides to run for Governor of Arkansas – she would be fantastic. Sarah, thank you for a job well done!

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) June 13, 2019

No replacement for the job has been named.

Sanders’ tenure was a rocky one marked by sometimes-ugly clashes with with the White House press corps — famously CNN’s Jim Acosta — and Democrats’ accusations of spreading falsehoods.

Fox News Re-Signs Former Governor Mike Huckabee as Contributor

Fox News has re-signed former governor Mike Huckabee as a contributor, a representative for the network confirmed on Friday. The channel didn’t offer any specifics about how long the contract was for or any additional details.

Huckabee, a former governor of Arkansas and two-time presidential candidate, has a long history with the network. Before becoming a contributor, he hosted his own Saturday show titled “Huckabee,” which ran from 2008 to 2015. The show ended when Huckabee left to pursue his second unsuccessful presidential run in 2016.

“As much as I have loved doing the show, I cannot bring myself to rule out another presidential run,” Huckabee told the New York Times. (It was later revived with Huckabee by the Christian-themed Trinity Broadcasting Network in 2017.)

John C Reilly Says Those ‘Step Brothers’ Farts Were Real (Video)
Uh, did John C. Reilly and Stephen Colbert just become best friends? Well, if the CBS late-night host is as amused by Reilly’s story about the authenticity of his “Step Brothers” farts as we are, then the answer is “Yup!”

Reilly and Colbert met for the first time during Thursday’s “Late Show,” and took the opportunity to trade war stories about their respective tenures doing improv and theater in Chicago in the ’80s. Reilly — who was more a stage thespian at the time — started listing off all the actors he admired from those days, one being John Malkovich.

And, uh, you can thank John for inspiring Reilly to really go big with his bodily functions while shooting the 2008 comedy with Will Ferrell.

Kentucky Clerk Kim Davis, Who Denied Same-Sex Marriage Licenses, Defeated by Democrat

 • The Wrap
Kim Davis, the clerk of Rowan County Kentucky who achieved 15 minutes of national infamy for refusing to grant marriage licenses back in 2015, was ousted form her office Tuesday evening.

Republican Davis was defeated by Elwood Caudill Jr. by a margin of about 700 votes, the Lexington Herald Leader reported.

“I genuinely offer gratitude to my family, and campaign supporters during the last year, for all their hard work, contributions, and commitment,” Caudill offered in a triumphant Facebook post shortly after the results were confirmed. “Moving our community forward means staying focused on our future. I believe that as a community we must continue to work together toward a more prosperous and cohesive Rowan County.”

Republicans, White Nationalists Fume Over Taylor Swift’s Senate Endorsement
Taylor Swift — who started her career in country music three years after the Dixie Chicks were driven off airwaves for taking a stand against the Iraq invasion — has always been careful not to talk politics. Until now, that is. In an Instagram post on Sunday, Swift disclosed that she would be voting in Tennessee in November for two Democrats: former governor-turned-Senate hopeful Phil Bredesen and Rep. Jim Cooper, whose district includes Nashville.

“In the past I’ve been reluctant to publicly voice my political opinions, but due to

Fox News Confirms Kimberly Guilfoyle Has Left the Network

 • Variety
Kimberly Guilfoyle, who has worked as an on-air panelist on Fox News programs like “The Five” and “Outnumbered” since 2006, is no longer with the 21st Century Fox-owned network, according to a statement released Friday afternoon. She is widely expected to join the parade of Fox News personalities and executives who have gone to work for the Trump administration.

Guilfoyle, who has been linked romantically to Donald Trump Jr. in recent months, has long been said to have strong ties to the president. Fox News did not cite specific factors behind the parting of the ways. Previous reports in Vanity Fair and CNN suggested Guilfoyle, who was once married to Gavin Newsom, now lieutenant governor of California, might now work with Trump supporters in the run-up to U.S. elections in 2018.

Fox News Channel has in the past cut ties with contributors who decided to take part in political campaigns,

Mike Huckabee Defends Tweet Linking Nancy Pelosi and Ms-13 Gang: ‘It Was Satire’ (Video)
Mike Huckabee on Monday defended a tweet suggesting that House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi employed Ms-13 gang members, telling Fox News host Shannon Bream that the blowback was all just a misunderstanding and evidence that clearly people didn’t understand “satire.”

“It was satire,” he told Bream, brushing aside the controversy. “I tell people all the time and I regularly post on my Twitter account. If you don’t have a sense of humor, if you cannot handle satire, please don’t follow me.”

The original joke from Huckabee on Saturday suggested that Pelosi was employing Ms-13 gang members.

Joe Scarborough Slams ‘Racist’ Mike Huckabee Tweet: ‘Parallels to the 1930s in Germany’
Joe Scarborough opened up Monday’s edition of “Morning Joe” with a swipe at Mike Huckabee, blasting a tweet from the former Arkansas governor as “so racist” and said it could be compared to something out of Nazi Germany.

“Mike Huckabee sent out a tweet this week, it’s so racist that you even had an awful lot of conservative Christian leaders coming out,” said Scarborough. “Whatever you want to call it — you pick — if you don’t want to pick, let’s say, parallels to the 1930s in Germany, let’s say David Duke, if that makes you feel more comfortable.”

The tweet that Scarborough referred to said that House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi would use gang members to help win back the House of Representatives for the Democrats.

Kellyanne Conway suffered a messaging flub on Wednesday, accidentally labeling her boss, President Donald Trump, “the commander of cheese,” during an appearance on CNN’s “New Day.”

She quickly corrected herself and continued on in the segment about the president’s fight with the Philadelphia Eagles.

The clip, first isolated by ShareBlue senior writer Tommy Christopher, quickly went viral.

Jim Carrey’s Latest Painting Is a Vivid Interpretation of Donald Trump’s ‘Special Breakfast Sandwiches’
Jim Carrey’s vivid, politically-motivated painting jag hasn’t abated just yet, and the artistically inclined actor has once again turned his attention to some of the nation’s top Republicans. In his latest painting — revealed, as ever, on his Twitter account — Carrey goes after House Republicans, including Devin Nunes, and what appears to be renderings of Mitch McConnell and Paul Ryan. The topic at hand: breakfast. Kind of.

In his accompanying caption, Carrey writes, “Every morning Trump makes special breakfast sandwiches for House Republicans. Devin Nunes eagerly finishes first and always asks for seconds!” The imagery is as expected, a colorful and cartoon-ish take on some of the country’s biggest political names, none of whom appear to be impressing Carrey these days. They’re just the latest subjects Carrey has tackled in his art, as he’s recently churned out similar portraits of Sean Hannity, Rudy Giuliani, Sarah Huckabee Sanders,

Mike Huckabee Fesses up After Trolling Obama Netflix Series: ‘I Am at the Lowest Form of Wit’ (Video)

Former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee didn’t think much of President Obama’s new content deal with Netflix.

During an interview on Fox Business with host Stuart Varney, Huckabee dropped some dad-level sarcasm so egregious he was forced to concede immediately afterward that he was “the lowest form of wit.”

The moment went down after Varney invited some playful speculation about what kind of content the Obama’s would produce.

Mike Huckabee Says His Daughter Is Doing Just Fine After Dinner Roast (Q&A)
In the 40 hours since Michelle Wolf roasted White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders (and other members of the Trump administration) during her White House Correspondents' Dinner hosting gig on Saturday night, a discussion has raged among journalists and politicos about whether the upstart comedian went too far. Figures along the ideological landscape have jumped in to support Sanders and to criticize what they saw as ad hominem attacks. Some, including the president, are saying that the annual dinner needs to be junked altogether.

Living Gay in Nashville: Country Music Insiders Share Stories of Inclusion, Blackmail, Huckabee and Haters
In putting together this week’s feature on the new, more inclusive Nashville, Variety spoke to a number of prominent figures in the country music community about their coming out experiences and life as a gay resident of Music City. In reporting “Nashville’s New Guard” on the heels of the March controversy over anti-same-sex-marriage crusader Mike Huckabee’s appointment to a charitable Cma board (reversed in a day under pressure), lingering questions remained over the challenges and opportunities Music Row’s gay community still faces.

For this attendant roundtable, we put some of those questions to a handful of pioneering figures in country: Jason Owen, the manager and Sandbox Entertainment president (Kacey Musgraves, Little Big Town) whose letter to the Cma helped shorten Huckabee’s tenure to a single day; Chely Wright, the first country star of stature to come out; Shane McAnally, the hit producer and co-writer for

Country Music’s New Leaders Struggle to Get on Right Side of History
The abrupt ouster last month of Mike Huckabee from the Country Music Association’s charitable board just 24 hours after his appointment sends a strong signal that Nashville’s cultural revolution is in full swing.

An organized right-wing backlash against the removal of the conservative gadfly and presidential aspirant quickly fizzled, and Music City breathed a sigh of relief. The swiftness of the forced departure of Huckabee, who has been vocal about his support for the NRA and objections to same-sex marriage and parenting, underscores how the country music industry has become a nexus of discussion for two of America’s hot-button topics: gun control and gay rights.

In stepping down from the position, Huckabee bitterly publicized his stance by posting his resignation letter on social media with the headline “Hate Wins” — far from how most of the town saw the decision.
