Make Room For New Nightmares! Hereditary's Director Is Back With New Horror Film Midsommar

Ari Aster is giving viewers a year to get over the effects of 2018's twisted Hereditary. The director on the rise recently released a brand new trailer for his forthcoming horror film Midsommar, which is about a couple's trip to Sweden during a nine-day midsummer festival that makes Fyre Festival look like the blast it was originally intended to be.

The most recent footage shows the couple (Jack Reynor and Florence Pugh) sifting through their strained relationship, and ultimately deciding to attend the festival as a wanderlusty distraction. The festival is an absolute delight, by the way! There are flower crowns, choreographed dances, traditional garments, and . . . Ok, scratch that, there's an animal carcass and smeared blood on some sort of symbolic rock.

Also starring William Jackson Harper and Will Poulter, Midsommar will be hitting theaters July 3, 2019. You have until then to rid your mind of Hereditary and make way for new nightmares.

We’ve got a great new trailer for you to watch today for the upcoming new horror thriller Midsommar. This trailer offers us a much better idea of what the story entails and also features some creepy and unsettling new footage. This movie looks like it going to be seriously jacked up.

I guess it’s not surprising, after all the movie does come from Ari Aster, who previously brought us the the nightmarish horror movie Hereditary. I love that this horror movie has a very colorful, bright, and vibrant look, especially since it tells a very dark and sinister story.

The story follows a couple, played by Jack Reynor and Florence Pugh, who are having relationship issues. Pugh’s character seems to be having an emotional breakdown. They end up being invited to Sweden by a friend to attend some traditional midsummer festivities. The trip starts out pleasantly, but then,

Midsommar Trailer #2 Turns a Swedish Festival Into a Sunlit Nightmare from Hell
Hereditary was one of 2018's biggest horror hits, putting director Ari Aster in the spotlight as an up and coming genre mastermind capable of pulling audiences into unique nightmare worlds never before seen in cinema. Now comes his next directorial effort Midsommar, which is unlike anything that has come before it.

Most horror movies lurk in the darkness. In contrast, Midsommar is drenched in sunlight and lives out in the open, which makes everything more unnerving than it needs to be. Summer itself becomes the monster, as one couple trie to keep their sanity in tact during the sunniest season of the year. This should be a party. Instead, it's a complete terror filled trip into the unknown.

Today, A24 has unleashed the second trailer for MIdsommar, which gives horror fans a better look at what Ari Aster has planned for the July 3rd weekend. This isn't going to be all BBQs and fireworks.

‘Midsommar’ Official Trailer: ‘Hereditary’ Director Ari Aster Welcomes You Back to Hell

‘Midsommar’ Official Trailer: ‘Hereditary’ Director Ari Aster Welcomes You Back to Hell
Ari Aster delivered a modern horror classic last year with “Hereditary,” and from the looks of it he could very well do it again this summer with the release of “Midsommar.” The sun-kissed psychological horror movie has been described by Aster as his version of a break-up movie, and that’s at least where the new official trailer from A24 starts. Rising indie stars Florence Pugh and Jack Reynor play a struggling couple who reluctantly take a summer trip together only for their relationship to derail because of a sinister cult.

The official synopsis from A24 reads: “A couple’s vacation to a Swedish village takes a sinister turn when the insular townspeople invite them into a series of rituals that render their pastoral paradise increasingly unnerving, in this dread-soaked and viscerally disquieting psychological thriller.”

Aster teased “Midsommar” earlier this year, telling fans, “It’s very macabre. But people shouldn’t go in expecting ‘Hereditary.
