Watch Lin-Manuel Miranda Rap About Prescription Sunglasses – and Announce His Broadway Return (Video)
Lin-Manuel Miranda did two important things on Tuesday’s “Tonight Show”: participate in an epic freestyle-rap battle with The Roots’ Black Thought and he announced that he’s going be taking his talents back to Broadway this fall with “Freestyle Love Supreme,” the improvisational hip-hop group co-founded by Miranda in 2004.

“Before ‘Hamilton,’ before ‘In the Heights,’ my first time performing in New York was with a freestyle hip-hop group called ‘Freestyle Love Supreme,'” Miranda said, after finishing the rap competition on Jimmy Fallon’s late-night show. “We are coming to Broadway this fall at the Booth Theater. It’s an entirely made-up Broadway show, you don’t know who is gonna show up. Black Thought might show up, I might show up one night, Chris Jackson might show up one night. You don’t know what’s gonna happen. Come see us in September!”

Film Review: Will Smith in ‘Aladdin’

  • Variety
Of all the characters in Walt Disney Studios’ canon, is there any more animated than the Genie from “Aladdin”? In 1992, old-school cartooning seemed the only way to keep up with comedian Robin Williams’ rapid-fire sense of humor and free-associative gift for improvisation. Much of the appeal of the original “Aladdin” came thanks to the ingenuity of its animators, led by Eric Goldberg, who used the medium to transform the mile-a-minute wish-meister before our eyes — as in one memorable moment when he cycles through caricatures, from William F. Buckley Jr. to a Marine Corps drill sergeant, kissy-lipped Yiddish bubbe, and back-from-the-dead Peter Lorre. The beloved charater’s elastic quality makes “Aladdin” perhaps Disney’s most daunting live-action adaptation yet, to say nothing of how Hollywood’s growing awareness of representation issues renders the original highly “problematic.”

Without Williams, or the near-infinite flexibility of hand-drawn animation, the challenge becomes how to translate

Elementary Season 6 Episode 5 Review: Bits and Pieces

Poor Sherlock.

Thanks to his condition, he'd lose his head if it wasn't attached.

But instead, he found a severed head in a bag on Elementary Season 6 Episode 5 -- if only he could remember where he picked it up.

His post-concussion syndrome almost levels the playing field for Sherlock's fellow investigators.

It was an interesting twist to have viewers arrive after the train had left the station, so to speak.

Marcus and Joan were already interrogating suspects for a crime about which we haven't even been informed, so we had to play catch up already.

Then Sherlock added a wrinkle to the case of the week, losing his short-term memory of the previous six hours but acquiring a head in a bag. Why? He didn't know.

Watch Auli’i Cravalho Perform ‘West Side Story’ at Miscast (Exclusive)
Is Auli’i Cravalho sending in her audition for Steven Spielberg’s reboot of “West Side Story?”

The 17-year-old star of “Moana” and NBC’s “Rise” took the stage at McC Theater’s annual gala, Miscast, a fundraising event where Broadway stars perform songs from roles in which they would never be cast. Hence the name, and Cravalho’s song choice “Something’s Coming,” which is originally sung by male lead Tony.

The Disney Princess teased the NY crowd starting off with the ballad that made her famous, “How Far I’ll Go,” but jokingly backtracked to her scheduled programming after the first few lines.

Cravalho’s opening remarks also revealed that when she was sent a list of potential songs to choose for Miscast, she had never heard the Leonard Bernstein-Stephen Sondheim number. “Don’t stone me please,” she pleaded with the theater crowd.
