Eiff announces galas by Amber Wilkinson - 2019-05-15 13:50:07

Edinburgh International Film Festival has today announced Jamie Adams' drama Balance, Not Symmetry will be this year's People's Gala, while animated musical adventure UglyDolls, starring Kelly Clarkson, will be the Family Gala.

Organisers describe Balance, Not Symmetry as "a beautiful cinematic tribute to art, music and Scotland (and Glasgow in particular)".

It was made in close conjunction with the Scottish band Biffy Clyro, who worked on both the storyline and the score and stars Laura Harrier (Spider-Man: Homecoming) as a Scottish-American art student who is studying at Glasgow School of Art, and whose privileged existence is thrown into a spin when her father unexpectedly dies. Torn between supporting her mother (Kate Dickie) and dealing with her own sense of loss, she finds herself re-examining her life and friends. She finds inspiration from provocative fellow student Hannah.

The Flickering Myth Reaction to the new Spider-Man: Far From Home trailer

The Flickering Myth writing team share their thoughts on the latest Spider-Man: Far From Home trailer and the post-Endgame McU possibilities…

Marvel Studios and Sony gave us our first glimpse at the post-Avengers: Endgame Marvel Cinematic Universe with the release of a new trailer for July’s Spider-Man: Far From Home, and here’s what our writing team made of this latest look at the closing chapter of Phase Three of the McU.

Eammon Jacobs: Although I was worried that this might end up being a disappointment after the Endgame spectacle – this trailer restored my faith. Everything from Mysterio and the larger multiverse ramifications, to Peter’s journey overcoming grief. Very excited about this.

Ej Moreno: I-i-i don’t know what to really say. It looks cool? Yeah, let’s go with it looks cool. Not sold on it from a story standpoint, but can’t knock them for

Michael Keaton's Vulture Is Not Returning in Spider-Man: Far from Home

Michael Keaton's Vulture Is Not Returning in Spider-Man: Far from Home
Sorry, fans of bad guys in cool jackets, as it's been confirmed that Michael Keaton won't be returning as Adrian Toomes, aka Vulture, in Spider-Man: Far from Home. The Oscar-nominated actor joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the classic villain in Spider-Man: Homecoming and he brought his usual excellence to the role. That's why quite a few fans were looking forward to seeing him on screen again, in whatever capacity, in the upcoming sequel. Unfortunately, that's not going to happen.

It had been previously reported when rumors of Jake Gyllenhaal being eyed for the role of Mysterio were cropping up last year that Michael Keaton was slated to return as Vulture in this movie. However, director Jon Watts has stepped in to pour some cold water on the situation. During a recent interview, which saw Watts breaking down the recently released Spider-Man: Far From Home trailer, the director was asked

Spider-Man: Far From Home Director Says Vulture Isn’t In The Movie

Spider-Man: Homecoming‘s post-credits scene seemed to suggest that we’d see more of Michael Keaton’s Adrian Toomes in the sequel, as it teased the formation of something like the Sinister Six. As he went down so well in that movie, it’d make sense for Marvel to bring him back to battle Tom Holland’s Spidey again, right? Well, wrong, apparently, as we’ve now been told that Vulture won’t take to the skies again in Spider-Man: Far From Home.

Following the release of the second Ffh trailer yesterday, director Jon Watts chatted with Fandango about the movie and the topic of a possible return for Keaton came up. The filmmaker was quick to squash any hopes that he might be back, however. At the same time, he clarified that Laura Harrier wouldn’t be seen as Liz Toomes, Vulture’s daughter, either.

“Keaton is not in the movie.

Michael Keaton and Laura Harrier aren’t in Spider-Man: Far From Home after all

Although it had been announced previously that they would be returning in some capacity in the sequel, director Jon Watts has revealed that neither Adrian Toomes (Michael Keaton) or his daughter Liz Allan (Laura Harrier) will appear in July’s Spider-Man: Far From Home.

Asked by Fandango about the return of the Spider-Man: Homecoming stars following the release of the latest trailer, Watts replied: “Keaton is not in the movie, and Laura is not in the movie.”

As much of the movie is set to take place in Europe, it’s not immediately clear how or why either of the characters would factor into the story, but as Keaton and Harrier’s castings were reported by Deadline and Variety, two respected trades, it’s certainly possible that Watts is trying to misdirect fans and keep their involvement a surprise.

After all, it certainly wouldn’t be a shock if The

After ‘Avengers: Endgame,’ What Marvel Cinematic Universe Movies Might We Expect Next?

After ‘Avengers: Endgame,’ What Marvel Cinematic Universe Movies Might We Expect Next?
[Editor’s note: Some mild spoilers ahead for “Avengers: Endgame.”]

By the end of Anthony and Joe Russo’s “Avengers: Infinity War,” the Marvel Cinematic Universe was forever altered, at least until this month’s “Avengers: Endgame,” which promises to provide a satisfying conclusion to both the world-changing “snap” that killed off half the known universe and end the franchise’s so-called Infinity Saga. While both Disney and Marvel have remained predictably mum on what’s to come for the McU after the Avengers-centric series presumably concludes, they’ve been unable to avoid setting aside a slew of dates for upcoming features, along with lining up new titles, directors, and casts to kit them out.

Over the coming years, Marvel and Disney have already staked out a number of future release dates for new McU movies, including eight locked-in dates that run from 2020 until 2022 — only one of these, “Spider-Man: Far From Home,” is confirmed for one of these dates.

Director Nia Dacosta Wants to Subvert the Western With Tessa Thompson-Starrer 'Little Woods'
Tessa Thompson is one of those actresses who tends to send the internet into a pitching fever dream merely by existing in the world. In the last month alone, based on new photos of the star, Instagram stories and her essay about Brie Larson, Twitter has suggested she star in remakes of Bonnie & Clyde and The Proposal, an adaptation of Pride & Prejudice, a haberdashery drama and an ensemble movie with Zendaya, Brie Larson and Laura Harrier. "Tessa Thompson Knows People Can't Stop Thinking About Her," skillfully observed a profile headline in The Cut in August. "tessa thompson could step on ...

Spike Lee Explains His Angry Reaction to Green Book's Win: 'I Thought the Ref Made a Bad Call'
Spike Lee is not holding back on his thoughts about Sunday’s Best Picture winner.

After Green Book picked up the Best Picture trophy during the final award of the 2019 Academy Awards in which his film was also nominated, Lee was far from thrilled for the true-life drama and immediately let his anger show.

Several outlets, including Deadline and the Associated Press, said that as soon as Green Book was announced, Lee stood up and angrily stormed towards the back of the Kodak Theater.

The BlacKkKlansman director, 61, was then seen “intensely” speaking to Jordan Peele.

Later in the evening, after
