Supergirl Recap: Kara and Lena Arrive At a Crossroads in Season 5 Premiere

Supergirl Recap: Kara and Lena Arrive At a Crossroads in Season 5 Premiere
Alien invaders? Lex Luthor? A rabid militia of masked supremacists? Sure, they all put up a decent fight, but Supergirl‘s previous foes pale in comparison to Season 5’s apparent Big Bad: Internet clickbait!

As we saw in Sunday’s premiere, there are big changes afoot at CatCo Worldwide Media, beginning with a new owner (Veronica Mars‘ Julia Gonzalo as Andrea Rojas) who isn’t the least bit impressed by the Pulitzer Prize Kara allegedly received for her op-ed about the divided state of our country. In fact, Andrea basically blames Kara’s prestigious honor for the recent decline in newspaper subscriptions.

‘Supergirl': Enjoy a Closer Look at Kara’s Cool New Costume (Photos)
We’ve known for a while that Kara is getting a costume change when “Supergirl” returns for its fifth season in October, but until now we’ve only had a single, somewhat obscured photo to see what it looks like. That changed Thursday when The CW released five new images from the upcoming season, including a bright and surprisingly casual look at the new uniform, and it’s pretty cool.

In addition, the CW also released four other images from the upcoming season, so fans of Dreamer, Querl Dox (Aka Braniac 5), Alex and J’onn J’onzz (or maybe Hank Henshaw) are covered, too.

But first up, the new uniform for Kara (Melissa Benoist) ditches her old super skirt and tights for a body suit similar to the one worn by her cousin Clark/Superman (Tyler Hoechlin). It’s a cool take on the classic Kryptonian good-guy outfit and we

First Official Look At Kara’s New Costume In Supergirl Season 5 Revealed

Set photos gave us a further glimpse of the costume and now, The CW has provided us with the best look yet at the new, improved Supergirl in this awesome promo image seen below.

Released today at the show’s Comic-Con panel, it depicts the heroine striding through National City with pandemonium apparently going on around her. The main focus of the image, though, is of course her new togs. Some have complained about the lack of the red skirt outsetting the balance between the two colours, but in this photo the bold blue really works. We’re definitely getting

  • Deadline
Two new cast members are heading to National City for Supergirl‘s upcoming fifth season, which will also see a new look for Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl (Melissa Benoist).

Kara (Benoist) will be sporting a new Kryptonian supersuit this season — the first revamp since her co-worker, friend, and confidante Winn Schott designed her iconic red and blue gear in season one. See image below.

The new suit, conceptualized by Supergirl costume designer Victoria Auth and created by Ironhead Studios and Bill Hargates Costumes, follows the evolution of supersuits in executive producer Greg Berlanti’s Arrowverse, which has seen redesigns of both the Arrow and Flash suits in recent years.

“We’re beyond excited to update Supergirl’s iconic suit, said Supergirl executive producers Jessica Queller and Robert Rovner. “We think her new image is strong and powerful. We hope the fans are as excited about it as we are.”

2018 Gold Derby TV Awards winners: ‘Versace’ and ‘Handmaid’s Tale’ are top winners, but ‘Game of Thrones’ takes Best Drama
The 15th Annual Gold Derby TV Award winners were announced on Thursday, September 6, during a live webcast announcement (watch it above). These prizes were decided by hundreds of Gold Derby users who arguably know more about the television landscape than a lot of TV academy members. And they spread the wealth when picking this year’s recipients. “The Assassination of Gianni Versace” was the biggest winner with four awards, followed by “The Handmaid’s Tale” with three, but the top series prizes actually went to “Game of Thrones” and “Atlanta.”

“Versace” swept the longform categories, claiming Best Limited Series, Best Movie/Mini Actor (Darren Criss), Best Movie/Mini Supporting Actress (Judith Light) and Best Movie/Mini Supporting Actor (Cody Fern). The last two prizes in that field went to “USS Callister (Black Mirror)” (Best TV Movie) and “The Tale” (Best Movie/Mini Actress for Laura Dern).

SAG Awards predictions head-scratcher: Can ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ win drama without having the biggest cast?

SAG Awards predictions head-scratcher: Can ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ win drama without having the biggest cast?
When it comes to the SAG Awards, size often matters. The most massive casts often run off with the ensemble prizes, which explains how “Lost” found victory at the 2005 ceremony, and how “Downton Abbey” (2012) was able to take down two-time champ “Boardwalk Empire” (2010-2011). This year, however, Gold Derby’s SAG TV predictions favor Hulu’s “The Handmaid’s Tale” to prevail despite having the second-smallest cast. Are we crazy for going against bigger ensembles?

“The Handmaid’s Tale” boasts 10 cast members on the voting ballot, ahead of only Netflix’s “The Crown” at five. Comparatively, the other nominated dramas each feature more than a dozen actors: HBO’s “Game of Thrones” at 30, Netflix’s “Stranger Things” at 17 and NBC’s “This Is Us” at 13. In recent years “Game of Thrones” and “Downton Abbey” always had the biggest casts, with “Downton” beating the HBO fantasy series in 2014 and 2015.
