Shazam! sequel will shoot next year, reveals Zachary Levi

Shazam! may not have managed to replicate the runaway financial success of Aquaman, but given its modest budget of $100 million, it proved to be a solid enough hit at the box office with $363 million to warrant a sequel.

It was revealed following the movie’s opening weekend that Shazam! screenwriter Henry Gayden was already on board to script a second instalment for Zachary Levi’s titular hero, and now Levi has revealed to the Associated Press (via CinemaBlend) that he expects filming on the movie to get underway in next year either in late spring or early summer.

The fact that WB and DC are looking to fast track a Shazam! sequel shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise, given that its young cast is key to the story and the kid actors are sure to grow up quickly.
