Anya Taylor-Joy to Star on Netflix Limited Series
Netflix has ordered “The Queen’s Gambit,” a limited series about “an orphan chess prodigy” who struggles with addiction, from “Godless” creator and “Logan” screenwriter Scott Frank, TheWrap has learned. “Split” star Anya Taylor-Joy will lead the cast, playing said “orphan chess prodigy.”

Here’s the official logline for the six-episode show, which is based on the Walter Tevis novel of the same name: “Chronicling the life of an orphan chess prodigy, the story – set during the Cold War era – follows Beth Harmon from the age of eight to twenty-two, as she struggles with addiction in a quest to become the greatest chess player in the world.”

Academy Award-nominee Frank will serve as writer, director and executive producer on “The Queen’s Gambit,” with William Horberg (“The Talented Mr. Ripley”) also executive producing and Allan Scott acting as co-writer and executive producer.

Lucy Liu’s ‘Unsung Heroes’ in Development at ABC Studios International
ABC Studios International has put anthology series “Unsung Heroes,” executive produced by Lucy Liu and Ruthanne Secunda, into development.

The scripted show will tell the “untold stories of incredible women who overcame adversity to become pioneers of their time,” showcasing highly accomplished women who were not acknowledged for their achievements during their time.

The first episode will chronicle Asian American female silent film and theater star Anna May Wong.

Liu, who is repped by Framework Entertainment, ICM Partners, and Schreck Rose Dapello Adams Berlin & Dunham, will executive produce through her Moonvision Entertainment production company. Secunda will executive produce through her deal with ABC Studios.

HBO Renews ‘High Maintenance’ for Fourth Season
Half-hour pot comedy “High Maintenance,” created by Katja Blichfeld and Ben Sinclair, has been renewed for a fourth season, announced HBO.

Starring Sinclair, the premium cable comedy follows him as the Guy, a nameless drug dealer in Brooklyn whose business allows viewers a look into a cross-section of New Yorkers and their stories. HBO describes the show as a “uniquely authentic portrait of New York with empathy and insight, telling amusing, surprising, sometimes moving and always poignant tales of denizens who are usually just faces on the crowded sidewalks of Brooklyn.”

Blichfeld, Sinclair and Russell Gregory executive produce the series. Willy Friedman, Gwen Bialic and Emi Irikawa are producers.

The show initially kicked off as a low-budget web series on Vimeo seven years ago, airing six seasons online before making the leap to HBO’s premium platform.

Get Shorty‘s Chris O’Dowd is set to star opposite Amy Landecker in “The Blue Scorpion” episode of CBS All Access’ reboot, The Twilight Zone.

The actor joins previously announced host and narrator Jordan Peele and cast members including Ike Barinholtz, Zazie Beetz, John Cho, Taissa Farmiga, Betty Gabriel, Ginnifer Goodwin, Greg Kinnear, Luke Kirby, Sanaa Lathan, Kumail Nanjiani, Seth Rogen, Adam Scott, Rhea Seehorn, Alison Tolman, Jacob Tremblay, Jessica Williams, DeWanda Wise and Steven Yeun.

Ratings: ABC’s ‘The Fix’ Is a Bit Broken in Premiere
ABC’s “American Idol” made its Monday premiere last night, but the singing competition couldn’t mask the disappointing debut rating for Marcia Clark’s “The Fix.”

NBC was first in ratings with a 1.4 rating/6 share in the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic and in total viewers with an average of 8 million, according to preliminary numbers. “The Voice” from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m posted a 1.7/7 and 9.7 million viewers. “The Enemy Within” at 10 had a 0.8/4 and 4.5 million viewers.

Fox was second in ratings with a 1.1/5 and in viewers with 5.51 million. “The Resident” at 8 received a 0.9/4 and 5.1 million viewers. At 9, “9-1-1” put up a 1.2/8 and 5.9 million viewers.

ABC was third in ratings with a 1.0/4 and in viewers with 5.49 million. The “American Idol” time slot premiere landed a 1.1/5 and 6 million viewers from 8 to 10. At 10, “The Fix” debut managed a 0.7/3 and 4.4 million viewers.

"Titans": DC Universe Series Adds Deathstroke’s Son, Jericho, for Season 2

Titans” is keeping it in the family with its latest addition to its expanded roster for season 2.

The DC Universe series is bringing in Chella Man as Joseph Wilson, better known as the hero Jericho. He’s also the son of the DC Comics villain Deathstroke, another new character joining “Titans” next season. Esai Morales was cast last week as the super assassin, whose real name is Slade Wilson.

Mute after his father failed to rescue him from having his vocal cords severed by assassins, Jericho has the unique ability to possess anyone just by making eye contact. This gentle-natured yet proud hero has proven himself a formidable Titan. Liam Hall plays a version of the character on The CW’s “Arrow.”

Along with Deathstroke, “Titans” is also adding Superboy (aka Conner Kent) for season 2.
