Dante's Inferno to get the anime treatment

  • FilmShaft.com
Just a few weeks after reporting that Universal will be giving Dante Alighieri's epic poem the live action treatment, news has now reached the trades that Dante's Inferno will also be getting the anime treatment!

Electronic Arts and Starz Media have teamed to produce their second animated feature, which will be based on the EA Game "Dante's Inferno." Film Roman, a subsidiary of Starz will produce the film, as it did with "Dead Space: Downfall," which was distribbed by Starz in the fall and was tied to the release of EA's high-profile sci-fi horror vidgame "Dead Space."

And to give each of the nine circles of hell (limbo, lust, gluttony, greed, anger, heresy, violence, fraud and treachery) their full charm, separate anime studios are being commissioned to create each one.

The game and the anime are both based on part one of Dante's classic poem "The Divine Comedy," better known as "Dante's Inferno.

Dante's Inferno screenplay gets X2 writer

In case you slept through English Lit, we should mention that Dante’s Inferno is actually a book-to-videogame-to-film adaptation. This isn’t a precedent, but it’s still an impressive leap for a 14th century poem. If the author, Dante Alighieri is rolling in his grave, at least you can be happy the film is in good hands with Dan Harris (X2, Superman Returns) writing the screenplay.

Gothic Italian Horror Flick 'L'Inferno' Comes to DVD

Ship to Shore Distribution has announced L'inferno for release on July 15. The black and white film was originally released in Italy in 1911 and was directed by Francesco Bertolini, Adolfo Padovan, and Giuseppe de Liguoro. The first known full-length Italian feature film L'Inferno is a surreal and beautiful nightmare of a film. Inspired by the haunting images of Gustave Dore and based on the classic literary work Dante's Inferno this gothic epic fallows Dante Alighieri (Salvatore Papa) as he is lead by Virgilio (Arturo Pirovano) through the nine circles of hell. This silent phantasmagoria will sink into your brain permanently as images like lucifer gorging himself on human bodies amidst a frozen wasteland and men holding their screaming decapitated heads towards the heavens unfold. Less like a film than a dream from another planet "L'Inferno" has left audiences breathless since it was first unveiled nearly one-hundred years ago. Head on over
