Trivia

The movie is now primarily known for its infamous, real, unstaged, brutal and quite disturbing fight scene between an actual lion and a tiger. On the day of the shoot, the movie's star Clyde Beatty, a renown lion tamer in real life, brought the two animals together in a cage for a scene in which he's suppose to tame them. However, the two beasts started fighting almost immediately. Unable to calm them down, Beatty decided to just film the whole thing and see what happens. The sequence kept in the movie shows the tiger dominating the lion but it cuts away before the lion is actually killed. Beatty later told in an interview that the lion actually ended up killing the tiger. Since the footage of the end of the fight doesn't exist, this has led to rumors that the tiger had indeed actually won, which is now a generally accepted misconception. See more »
