This film is one of over 200 titles in the list of independent feature films made available for television presentation by Advance Television Pictures announced in Motion Picture Herald 4 April 1942. At this time, television broadcasting was in its infancy, almost totally curtailed by the advent of World War II, and would not continue to develop until 1945-1946. Because of poor documentation (feature films were often not identified by title in conventional sources) no record has yet been found of its initial television broadcast. Post WWII televiewers in Los Angeles got their first look at it Sunday 15 January 1950 on KNBH (Channel 4). See more »

Familiar themes from Edgar Wallace
4 February 2014 | by malcolmgswSee all my reviews

Edgar Wallace wrote over 200 thrillers and so it is little surprise that many elements are used time and again. We have a gang terrorising London, with a mysterious leader known to nobody.Anyone who refuses their demands for payment of a substantial sum is murdered, often in unusual circumstances. However the point is that if you have seen many of the films of his books, then the gang leader stands out a mile. This film was clearly a quota quickie made for Universal films by Reginald Denham who doubled as a film and theatre director in the 30s.He keeps the action moving along and has used his presumably minuscule budget well.Alfred Drayton is unusually cast as the Scotland Yard detective. However this film is not nearly as good as "The Frog" starring Gordon Harker.
