Popeye begins his movie career by singing his theme song, demonstrating his strength at a carnival, dancing the hula with Betty Boop, pummeling Bluto, eating his spinach and saving Olive Oyl from certain doom on the railroad tracks.
After reading his favorite Dick Tracy comic, Daffy Duck has a surreal dream in which he is Duck Twacy, a private eye on the trail of an army of horrifyingly grotesque villains who stole every piggy bank in town, including his own.
Mickey, Donald, and Goofy are cleaning a large clock. Among the complications: Mickey fights a sleeping stork that doesn't want to leave, Donald gets tangled up in the main-spring, and Goofy is inside the bell when the clock strikes four.
After sending his giant bird, Rokh, to wreck Popeye's boat and kidnap Olive Oyl, Sindbad forces Olive to dance for him by firing buckshot at her feet with a pea-shooter. Popeye attempts to rescue her while J. Wellington Wimpy follows a duck around with a meat-grinder. After Popeye disposes of Rokh and Sindbad's two-headed, Yiddish-accented giant, Boola, it's a battle to the "finich" between the two legendary sailors.Written by

This film had some of its scenes shot in Tabletop. This was a process that combined 2D and 3D animation - miniature sets were built on a stage, then the characters were then animated and superimposed over this background, so that various objects could pass in front/behind them. This created an impression of depth and quality to the viewer. See more »
After Sindbad sings to Popeye the line "Who's the most remarkable, extraordinary fellow?", the animals respond "You!", and you can then see some of them mouthing "Sindbad the Sailor", but that line is not heard. This happens again on the very next verse. See more »

Sindbad the Sailor:
I'm Sindbad the Sailor, so hearty and hale / I live on an island on the back of a whale / It's a whale of an island - that's not a bad joke / Its lord and its master is this handsome bloke! Who's the most remarkable extra-ordinary fellow?
[the lions roar]
Sindbad the Sailor:

Using the Fleischer Brothers' special 3-d backgrounds, Paramount's "Sindbad" is an impressive animation feat, as well as an entertaining and funny cartoon. It has made virtually every "greatest cartoon" list, with no apologies.
