Alice Faye was initially able to convince the studio that the then novice Tyrone Power Jr. should be her leading man. Shortly after production began, however, they changed their mind and replaced him with Michael Whalen, who was then a bigger name. Ironically Faye's subsequent three films with Power proved the most successful of her career.
