The 5 Best Movies Leaving Netflix in September 2017

Lilo & Stitch – Although nobody seems to agree when the Disney “Golden Age” of the 1990’s ended, everybody concedes that by the time the 2000’s rolled around, the quality of their theatrical releases had nosedived hard. And although they had a number of genuinely good movies released among the dreck they fast became known for, all of them were looked over. A 21st Century reimagining of the story of the Ugly Duckling, Lilo & Stitch is the story of a young Hawaiian girl and her guardian sister struggle to stay together as a family. Complicating matters is that she

A giant, bronze Captain America statue is Comic-Con- and Brooklyn-bound
Remember that giant statue of the Man of Steel in Superman v Batman? Well, on the Marvel side of things, Captain America is getting his own effigy, for real. Here’s hoping it won’t get defaced like Superman’s did (but, hey who knows what we can really hope for when you consider the latest revelation about Cap in the comics). Just after American Independence Day, USA Today revealed Marvel’s plans for the 13-foot bronze statue of the patriotic superhero. (Alas, they decided it wouldn’t be the best use of resources to make it out of vibranium.) The statue will be unveiled at San Diego Comic-Con later this month, then will take a cross-country trip before arriving at its final destination, Brooklyn’s Prospect Park. The statue will feature the inscription “I’m just a kid from Brooklyn,” words Steve Rogers spoke in the 2011 film Captain America: The First Avenger,

'Once Upon a Time' Creator Describes Season 5 in One Word

ABC's "Once Upon a Time" Season 4 ended with the name "Emma Swan" shown on the Dark One's Dagger. So now our main hero, The Savior, is also The Dark One. That should be interesting, dearies... Ouat Season 5 will premiere Sunday, September 27 at 8 p.m., and creators Adam Horowitz and Eddie Kitsis have only just begun to work on the scripts. But they recently teased some details to Zap2it, and it sounds like a heavy focus will be on Jennifer Morrison's character.

When Zap2it asked for a one-word description for Season 5, Kitsis answered: "Swan." Not Emma. Not Darkness. Swan. A swan is a symbol of beauty, so maybe we'll see an Ugly Duckling-like story. Whatever happens, "Captain Swan" shippers who love Captain Hook with Emma Swan are ready to embrace Captain Dark Swan. That's not to say that Emma will dominate the season, since Horowitz told Zap

Big Brother's Jade-Martina Lynch: 'The Catholic church is a cult'

Jade-Martina Lynch never thought she'd make it as a Big Brother housemate, even though it had been on her bucket list for years. "I don't really find myself quite interesting," she joked when we met her at the contestants' secret hotel, where they're all being holed up before Tuesday's big launch night.

But Big Brother bosses must have disagreed, as Jade-Martina's about to head into the house. Before she did, though, we grabbed her for an exclusive chat about her dislike of the Catholic church, her polyamorous lifestyle and her history of being bullied...

1. Jade-Martina is doing the show to learn more about herself.

"I've never felt ready enough to do it until now, and I never thought I'd get in, but the reason why I want to do it is because I want to find someone else who's like me, because I've never met anyone like me," she said.

Watch Sofia Vergara Give Wacky Clues as She Plays Catchphrase with Jimmy Fallon
Sofia Vergara didn't exactly look excited to play Catchphrase with Jimmy Fallon on Tuesday's Tonight Show.

"You always make me do these weird American games that I don't know how to play," she complained, adding that she didn't even have the energy to high-five Fallon.

They were joined by James Marsden and Fallon's sidekick Steve Higgins.

"Can I say words in Spanish?" the Hot Pursuit star asked. "No," was the answer.

"It's an insect. It's red and has black dots on it," Fallon said as his clue for Vergara.

"Una mariquita!" the Colombian star guessed, confusing the other contestants, until she added correctly,

Friends: 25 Lessons That Completely Changed Your Life

Fox

Today marks the ten year anniversary of the first day we all woke up without Friends in our lives. On May 6th 2004, the most enduring sit-com in the history of television screened its last ever episode (to date, anyway, despite the annual clamour for its stars to stop trying to make movies, or moonlighting in other inferior TV shows) and left a gaping hole in the schedule that was almost too great for even The Big Bang Theory to fill (in the Uk at least.)

That Friends continues to be such an enduring presence and cultural phenomenon is testament to just how important it was to its fans: it was more than just a TV show, which is precisely why the re-runs, which run multiples times a day and fill thousands of scheduled TV hours are so veraciously watched even a decade on, and with very little chance that

John D Wilson obituary

Innovative animator whose credits include Lady and the Tramp, Petroushka and Grease

The pioneering animator John David Wilson, who has died aged 93, launched his studio, Fine Arts Films, in 1955 and found success with his first short subject, an adaptation of a Japanese folk tale, Tara the Stonecutter, which was screened in America with Teinosuke Kinugasa's Oscar-winning samurai drama Jigokumon (Gate of Hell, 1953). Next came Petroushka (1956), for which Igor Stravinsky (despite negative feelings towards animation following Disney's Fantasia) was persuaded by Wilson to prepare a shortened score for the film and conduct the Los Angeles Philharmonic for the soundtrack. Petroushka won several festival awards and was the first animated film to be accepted by the Venice film festival.

Wilson's diverse productions ranged from innovative TV commercials for Instant Butter-Nut Coffee, made with the actor and humorist Stan Freberg, to a groundbreaking 15-minute film, Journey to the Stars, for the United

Netflix seeks cable partnership, wants to be the next HBO

Remember when Netflix was the future of the entire media industry? First it created a DVD-by-mail service that made the entire Blockbuster era look like a bad joke. (Remember late fees? Remember the horrible selection, with nothing before 1983?) People nostalgic for Blockbuster are like aging Russian widows who lay flowers at Stalin’s grave. Then Netflix accelerated us into the era of streaming video, creating a massive archive of instantly accessible movies and TV shows. Last May, a study found that Netflix accounted for a fifth of all the internet traffic in North America.

Of course, like all successful internet companies,

So the next time you feel the urge to talk back to your mom, take a moment to pause, press play and let the music drown out the comebacks.
