New Mexico sheriff Holt, hires a special deputy, known as the Santa Fe Kid, to pose as an outlaw, in order to track down a gang of smugglers, operating along the Mexican border. He soon discovers that the gang leader is a respected townsman, Bill Stewart but Stewart's head henchman, Kent, is also wise to the Kid's game.
