In the original comic, Congo Bill's sidekick was a jungle boy called Janu. Lureen is Janu's replacement for the movie and has never appeared in the comic, especially after Congo Bill became Congorilla.

lronically, one Congo Bill story from 1954 features a man named Peter Yardley who learned from his guardian on his deathbed that he was actually an lndian prince named Chudlu who was taken from the jungle by the guardian at his father's request. The character is an exact diametric opposite of Lureen, possibly because DC comics had no legal right to use Lureen as a character.
