With Andy getting married Aunt Bee is looking to move out of the town and live with her sister out of state. Sam suggests she move onto the farm with him and his son Mike. Various members of the community talk to Aunt Bee and convince her how important she is to the town convincing her to re-evaluate her decision.
The town is a-buzz as plans progress for the annual harvest ball. Betty Swanson becomes the center of attention as Goober and Sam accidentally compete for her attention and the chance to take her to the dance. A strange twist of events at the dance see both Goober and Sam get all they hoped for
Sam's cousin, Vince is coming to visit after not seeing him for 5 years. Vince reveals he has a horse that has not lived up to its potential as a race horse and is looking to sell the animal to finance a restaurant he wants to partner in. Sam begins to ask around town in the hope of helping his cousin out, however Aunt Bee cooks up an alternative scheme that may see everyone finish up a winner.
Sam is concerned with the corn crop ready for harvest. Sherriff Andy hears of a scheme to help rehabilitate released prisoners. With some reservation Sam agrees to take on two of the men to help with the harvest. To the men's surprise the town embraces them and seems unconcerned about their former life, until some money seems to go missing
Mike accidentally receives a paper copier through the mail. Rather than returning the machine he and a friend decide to go into business making copies of documents for local business. With a 10 day return policy the kids think they can't lose. That is till they accidentally damage the unit beyond repair and somehow have to explain the situation to Mike's father
A television company writes to the town asking them to send two representatives to New York to record a show about where is better Mayberry or New York City. Emmett and Howard are chosen by the town to defend the honor of all small towns across America. Things don't go well and Howard returns to Mayberry an outcast till an odd twist of events teaches the town and Howard some inner truths.
The town council is concerned with the drop in fund raising efforts for the Church. They discover the problem is with the annual charity play. They ask the producer to stand down but a then faced with who will replace her.
The town is a buzz when news spreads that a new couple have moved into the area. The town is further intrigued when they discover one of the couple is a writer. But as is always in Mayberry, nothing is ever what it seems.
Aunt Bee arrives home from her cruise with the exciting new she is engaged to be married to the captain of the ship she was on. Some of the townsfolk express concerns about the captains real motivation.
The local school decides to institute a new driver education program. Everyone in the town council is very supportive, however the question of who will teach the students creates some interesting problems.
Millie has a girlfriend, Renee, visiting from New York who has recently broken up with a long time partner. Millie asks Sam to show her around and keep her busy. Unfortunately Renee interprets Sam's kindness the wrong way and begins to find herself attracted to him.
Mayberry gets an invitation to join a sister city program by the United States government. The citizens of Mayberry embrace the idea and arrange for a delegation from their Mexican sister city, Porto Bello to visit Mayberry.
