Based on a true military operation by Israeli commandos. An Air France flight is hijacked by the P.F.L.P. The plane has about one hundred Jewish passengers. The plane is grounded in Uganda. Israelis would not negotiate. This movie then shows how less than five hundred soldiers actually flew so far and rescued the passengers in one of the most successful military operations in history. The only casualty for Israeli soldiers was Lieutenant Colonel Yonatan "Yonni" Netanyahu.Written by

Some of the footage was filmed at the Van Nuys Air National Guard Base, California, using C-130s belonging to the 146th TAW. Members of the 146th were allowed to watch some of the filming one night. Also, a couple of the aircraft were painted with Israeli insignia and flew that way during a training mission. See more »
When the pilot of the Air France plane is told to enter as new course heading 181 (which means almost directly southwards), the plane turns right. However, if flying from Athens to Paris, the plane would have a heading of approx. 315 (northwest). So, the shortest way to reach heading 181, the plane should turn left. See more »

Excellent drama that should be viewed by all who seek an action thriller based on a true event.
This movie was excellent, even for a 1977 TV movie, and I would recommend it to everyone although it is Out of Print and only available on VHS. You can still find copies of it on eBay and at old video stores. This movie is gripping from the beginning to end with a superb climax rescue scene at the end of the hostage crisis. Anyone should see this movie, particularly those who like military/action movies that are based on true events. THIS MOVIE MUST BE SEEN!
