“Heeere’s Johnny!!” The Shining Screening Midnights This Weekend at The Tivoli

“Little pigs, little pigs, let me come in. Not by the hair of your chiny-chin-chin? Well then I’ll huff and I’ll puff, and I’ll blow your house in!”

The Shining (1980) screens midnights this weekend (June 21st and 22nd) at The Tivoli Theater as part of their ‘Reel Late at The Tivoli’ Midnight Series. A Facebook invite for the screening can be found Here

Stanley Kubrick’s 1980 horror film, The Shining (based on the Stephen King novel) creates some of the most genuine spine chills ever filmed. Taking a job as a winter caretaker for a giant and remote hotel, Jack Nicholson, his wife Shelley Duvall, and his son Danny Lloyd, find that the long hallways and empty rooms contain more than a few ghosts. The film goes back and forth from scary to amusing as Jack, meticulously pacing his part, slowly turns into a psychopath, taking an axe to his loved ones.

The Doctor Sleep Trailer Looks Intense

Doctor Sleep is the sequel we didn’t know we needed but now that we see the trailer we definitely Want it. The Shining was, honestly, not the favorite movie of its author, Stephen King, but so far it sounds like King is praising the way Doctor Sleep has been handled since it’s a return to one of the most epic horror films ever made. One of the best parts about it is that you get to see Danny returning to the Overlook, where the real horror began. What we learn however is that the horror didn’t end when he

Doctor Sleep director on recreating shots from The Shining

This week brought us the first trailer for Doctor Sleep, Warner Bros.’ upcoming adaptation of Stephen King’s sequel to The Shining, with the trailer featuring a number of flashbacks and nods to the classic Stanley Kubrick film.

During an interview with Digital Spy, director Mike Flanagan has revealed that all of the shots from The Shining seen in the trailer have been recreated by the filmmakers save for one – the blood-soaked elevator scene.

“What’s interesting about the images that you saw is that all of them except for one are images that we created from scratch,” said Flanagan. “We could’ve spent months trying to perfectly create the fluid dynamics of the blood coming out of the elevator doors, but it’s impossible to do. The way that it happened when Kubrick made it, the way the blood wraps and coils down at the edge of the elevator

Original Danny Torrance Actor Responds to The Shining Sequel Doctor Sleep

Original Danny Torrance Actor Responds to The Shining Sequel Doctor Sleep
The Doctor Sleep trailer was unveiled earlier this week and original Shining actor Danny Lloyd was "surprised" by it. Lloyd famously played the young version of Danny Torrance in the Stanley Kubrick classic. Mike Flanagan directed the new movie, which is based off Stephen King's novel and from the looks of things, Kubrick's 1980 movie, which is also based on King's source material. The trailer was received very well by fans who are trying to figure out what exactly is going on in the three minutes of footage we were treated to.

Danny Lloyd is no longer an actor and grants very few interviews since stepping away from the entertainment business. Lloyd is now a college biology professor and he was pleasantly surprised by what he saw in the Doctor Sleep trailer. He had this to say when asked about the trailer and seeing someone else portraying his character.

"I was surprised.

Danny Torrance Heads Back to The Overlook in the Bone-Chilling Trailer For Doctor Sleep

Stephen King released the long-awaited follow-up to The Shining in 2013, titled Doctor Sleep. Now, the horror novel has been adapted into an equally chilling film starring Ewan McGregor as an adult Danny Torrance, who you can catch a glimpse of in the first teaser trailer, above.

Even though Danny is all grown up, he's obviously still a little shaken by everything that went down at the Overlook Hotel all those years ago with his father. Fortunately, he still has his "shine," which he needs to fight a child-killing cult called the True Knot. The top hat-wearing cult leader (Rebecca Ferguson) is after one young girl in particular, the evanescent Abra Stone, who has the most spectacular "shining" ever seen.

Together Danny and Abra begin a battle for the latter's soul as an epic war between good and evil rages on, all culminating at the place where everything began: the Overlook.

The Week in New Movie Trailers

Kirsten Howard Jun 15, 2019

Did some of this week's trailer offerings pass you by?

Each week usually brings a fresh batch of trailers designed to lure us into coughing up a bit of cash to see some forthcoming attractions. Sometimes they do the job quite nicely, and for sure there's nothing quite as exciting as a film that comes out of nowhere with a brilliant trailer that takes you from "ehh" to "okay, I'm in" in less than three minutes.

We have to admit, sometimes we miss those old school trailers with the gravelly voiceovers. "It Was A Time Of War" that sort of thing. The ones that didn't seem to show you half the movie. A whole lot of trailers nowadays seem to be cut the same way, too - if you notice that obligatory bass drop once, you'll probably notice it forever - but we still eat them up regardless.

'Shining' Actor Danny Lloyd "Surprised" by 'Doctor Sleep' Trailer

'Shining' Actor Danny Lloyd
The first trailer for Doctor Sleep, the highly anticipated sequel to The Shining, dropped Thursday and among the millions who checked it out was child actor Danny Lloyd, who played Danny Torrance in the Stanley Kubrick classic.

His initial reaction: "I was surprised."

Nearly three minutes long, the first preview of the Mike Flanagan film, based off the Stephen King novel and also, it seems, Kubrick's 1980 movie, showed a few (clearly reshot) scenes from the original movie with Lloyd's character mixed among the footage of the adult Danny Torrance, played by Ewan McGregor.

Lloyd, who ...

Doctor Sleep: 5 Key Details We Have About the Gripping Sequel to The Shining

Warner Bros. is chugging right along with the film adaptation of The Shining's sequel. Based on Stephen King's 2013 book Doctor Sleep, the story follows Danny Torrance in his adult life. Obviously, he's still a little shaken up by everything that went down at the Overlook Hotel all those years ago, but he still has his "shine," and he has bigger foes to face in the present day. Having read the book, I can say it's going to be pretty insane to see this one come to life. Wondering what else we've managed to glean about the upcoming project? There's a lot of information out there!

22 Worst Dads in Film and TV, From Homer Simpson to Darth Vader (Photos)
Worst dads on tv and film

Homer Simpson, “The Simpsons

Homer Simpson is TV’s most famous dad but not exactly a role model. He may be good at heart but some of his favorite past times include drinking, laying on the couch, and strangling his son Bart whenever he gets out of line.

Daniel Plaineview, “There Will Be Blood

Daniel Plainview (Daniel Day-Lewis) says it straight out, “he’s an oilman”; he puts family second behind his own greed. That becomes abundantly clear as his relationship deteriorates with his adopted son throughout the movie.

Al Bundy, “Married With Children”

Ed O’Neill was a very different kind of family man on “Married With Children” than he is now on “Modern Family.” Al’s cynical outlook on life has a hard time not having an effect on his kids.

Stephen King Had to Approve the Doctor Sleep Changes Involving Stanley Kubrick's The Shining

It’s no secret that Stephen King hated Stanley Kubrick’s film adaptation of The Shining. So, I was very surprised to see aspects of Kubrick’s The Shining in the first trailer that was released for Doctor Sleep. You see, the novel is a sequel to The Shining book and in no way includes anything from Kubrick’s film.

When director Mike Flanagan set out on the journey to bring Doctor Sleep to the big screen, he not only wanted to honor King’s work, but he also wanted to honor Kubrick’s. To do that, to tie the film into what Kubrick did, Flanagan had to get approval from King himself.

During a recent Q&a with the director, Flanagan explained if King didn’t go for it, he wouldn’t have made the movie:

"When it came to trying to craft the adaptation, I went back to

There Was Only One Actual Scene Used From Kubrick's The Shining in The Doctor Sleep Trailer

Yesterday the first trailer was released for Doctor Sleep, which is a sequel to Stephen King’s The Shining. I was super impressed with the trailer, and it seems like a lot of fans loved it as well! This looks like it’s going to be a great movie!

One of the things I thought was very cool about the trailer that we saw is that it incorporated footage from Stanley Kubrick’s classic film, The Shining. I initially thought that all the footage we saw was from Kubrick’s film. But, in reality, there was only one scene used. The rest of the Overlook Hotel scenes were shot by director Mike Flanagan!

I would have never known that had he not revealed that bit of information to ComingSoon in a recent interview where he said that the only actual footage they used from Kubrick’s movie was from the

Stephen King had to be talked into letting Doctor Sleep share a universe with Kubrick's The Shining

  • The AV Club
Of the great and storied Hollywood feuds between adapter and adaptee, few are as infamous as Stephen King’s stance on Stanley Kubrick’s version of The Shining. King is on the record—many times over, and as recently as just a few years ago—of frankly hating the director’s widely heralded horror opus, going so far as to…

The Shining: 10 Questions We’ve Waited Over 30 Years For Doctor Sleep To Answer

More than 30 years after it first hit cinemas in 1980, Stanley Kubrick’s horror masterpiece The Shining will be getting a sequel. Titled Doctor Sleep and directed by The Haunting of Hill House creator Mike Flanagan, the follow-up to Kubrick’s adaptation of Stephen King’s novel will see an adult Danny (Ewan McGregor) struggle to live with his past while defending himself from present and future threats.

Since the upcoming movie has the unique position of being a sequel both to King’s best-selling book and Kubrick's iconic film (which took a lot of liberties), Doctor Sleep may not follow everything that happens in the book, making it unpredictable for both newcomers and readers. With these in mind, here are 10 questions about The Shining that we hope Doctor Sleep will answer or at least address in some way.
