Easy to forgive on how bad this movie is
31 March 2019 | by tdrishSee all my reviews

It's easy to forgive how bad this movie is. I would call this a boring slasher film. What makes a boring slasher film? Easy. Boring kills. And a boring story line doesn't help, either. However, once in awhile, you can tell when strong efforts are put forth, and when it still doesn't work, it's just not enough to save your film, I have to give credit where credit is due. This is a 1983 film. Back then, we didn't bat an eye at racism in movies. Now? Forget it. In this one, its seems to be racism towards Indians. Go figure that. There's talk about an Indian burial ground ( which is never a good thing in a horror movie), and an Indian is actually bullied around in a bar in the beginning of the film. My two main problems with Sweet Sixteen. First and foremost, she's a CHILD! She hasn't even reached her sixteenth birthday, and that makes her fifteen, for those of you who failed simple arithmetic in school. Although the actress was older then this, in my eyes, she was barely legal, so the shower scene WAS COMPLETELY UNNECESSARY! There was no need for it! So, now that I feel better getting that off my chest, we can get on with the silly story here. Whoever gets close to Melissa ( That's the jail baits name here), gets the axe. And by axe, I mean the knife. And by knife, I mean a small knife, so its going to take several several, several stabs to do away with you. There's no creativity in the murders here, look elsewhere. Another problem I had with the film, was the disjointed script. You can tell they had many, many problems making this movie, and there's no doubt in my mind it was dragged through the bowels of editing hell. For a low quality film trying its best to be a high quality film, as I said, I have to give credit where credit is due. If you've done everything you can to make your film great, you've done everything in your power, how can I hold it against you when its done and over, and you still have a mess to clean on your plate. I'll give you a pat on the back, tell you your movie is a piece of crap, and tell you better luck next time. I'm not going to lie and say that anything here was a sight to see. Filmed in Texas, this lesser known title is lesser known for a reason...it's just nothing to talk about. About fifty minutes in, I wanted to shut it off, but I had to know who the killer was. I wanted to know if it was who I thought it was. ( I won't say if I was right or wrong.) And I wasn't shocked by the ending.
