Did You Know?

The phenomenal box office success of Gone in 60 Seconds (1974) allowed director/star H.B. Halicki to buy all of the property, vehicles and memorabilia seen in the film (as owned by character Harlan Hollis). Halicki owned the world's largest toy and automobile collection, which sat untouched for several years after his death in 1989, until litigation forced nearly the entire lot to be auctioned off in 1992. There are several inconsistencies with the newspaper articles shown during the "awards ceremony" video on Harlan's background. The shot of "The Hollywood Reporter" gives a 1982 date (when the scene was shot), when it talks about Harlan's first movie which was supposedly made years earlier. The next headline gives the year as 1977. Once Harlan's wife Helen is killed, and the headlines change to those covering her death, the year is suddenly 1976, yet she dies after the events of the first two stories. The next article, which deals with Harlan's second film, gives the year as 1977, but the next (also about his second movie), has the year as 1982 again (in "The Hollywood Reporter"). The next article shows 1980, then goes back to 1979, before finally returning to 1982 for the Pontiac Firebird commercial, despite all of this supposedly occurring in chronological order. Furthermore, none of the articles match the headlines about Harlan/Helen, and all talk of completely unrelated stories. See more »

Larry Bergleman: [crouched under Susan's newsdesk] Yesterday, you told me you had a dynamite story. Little did I realize that Richard Hill and Michael fox would nearly be blown to bits. Now you know something about this, don't you?
Susan Clark: Larry, I'd check my sources, but you'd never believe me.
Larry Bergleman: Yeah, okay. And I don't believe I'm doing this either.
Susan Clark: Doing what?
Larry Bergleman: Giving you this file from research. It's on recreational planes. You're on your own from here.
Susan Clark: How can I ever thank you?
Larry Bergleman: [slams the file onto the news desk] Just ...

Also missing from the current releases is a line of dialog from the second female police dispatcher, spoken over the shot of the pile-up taken from the helicopter during the main chase. She says, "Attention all units. CHP aircraft airborne from Kings City, ETA twenty-two minutes. Units from the cities of Paso Robles, Atascadero and San Luis Obispo are assisting. CHP units are also responding from Bradley, San Lucas, San Miguel, Tempelton and Blackwell's Park." See more »

Great Car Chases but Mediocre Acting
8 January 2008 | by AZ-NickSee all my reviews

This truly is one of the best car chase movies I've seen! It is comparable to Bullit, Ronin, Gone in 60 Seconds, etc. It is a classic combination of guns, explosives, & high speed car chases (and crashes!). While it is a lesser-known title than the others in its genre, the movie is action-packed from almost the very beginning through to the end. Additionally, this is the only movie I've seen wherein the main character is chased in a Cadillac Eldorado. Whether intentional or not, I found it somewhat ironic that the three cars involved in the main chase scene in the movie were each one from the Big 3 U.S. auto manufacturers. There's a GM, Ford, & Chrysler vehicle; I guess H. B. Halicki wanted to give equal recognition to each of the Big 3. In my opinion, the only reason it is not a perfect 10 is due to the mediocre acting and the distracting and sometimes annoying sub-plot. However, this still is a must-see for the car chase fanatic!
