‘John Wick’ Director Chad Stahelski on Franchise’s Future: Assassin Is Never Going to ‘Ride Off Into the Sunset’

‘John Wick’ Director Chad Stahelski on Franchise’s Future: Assassin Is Never Going to ‘Ride Off Into the Sunset’
Editor’s note: Minor spoilers for “John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum” below.]

For fans of the Keanu Reeves-starring action franchise “John Wick,” the third entry in the series comes with more than a few surprises. The biggest one, however: it doesn’t bring a conclusion to the franchise, which will apparently not conclude in a trilogy, as some fans anticipated. In some respects, the film builds an even more solid foundation for future films by delving, in small doses, into the story-world’s own mythology. Thoughts of a “John Wick: Chapter 4” will be instantly stirred by a small scene, following the third installment’s dramatic conclusion, that would seem to tease the premise for another sequel..

And yet director Chad Stahelski warns fans to not over-interpret that moment. “People ask me this all the time, am I ending the movie for a cliffhanger? Is there a number four it’s headed for?

Since any New York City cinephile has a nearly suffocating wealth of theatrical options, we figured it’d be best to compile some of the more worthwhile repertory showings into one handy list. Displayed below are a few of the city’s most reliable theaters and links to screenings of their weekend offerings — films you’re not likely to see in a theater again anytime soon, and many of which are, also, on 35mm. If you have a chance to attend any of these, we’re of the mind that it’s time extremely well-spent.

Tom Holland Reveals A Sad Truth About Captain America: Civil War

In the grand scheme of things, Captain America: Civil War is one of the most important Marvel movies of the lot.

As a matter of fact, when people were composing their McU marathons in anticipation of Avengers: Endgame, Joe and Anthony’s Civil War was soon identified as a must-watch – the kind of movie you simply cannot skip, otherwise you risk being totally confused by the whole Tony/Steve reunion in Endgame.

Moreover, Civil War also holds a special place in our hearts for introducing Tom Holland’s Spider-Man to the McU, though it seems the actor has a surprise admission to make now that Endgame has come and gone. Remember when Peter Parker references that ‘really old movie’ Empire Strikes Back? Turns out Holland has never actually seen what is undoubtedly one of the best Star Wars films ever made.

It’s so funny, the two films I’ve referenced in their movies,

Watch The Full Alien Stage Play Put on by North Bergen, NJ High School with Introduction by Sigourney Weaver

Last month, New Jersey’s North Bergen High School put on an impressive stage play version of Ridley Scott’s Alien. News of the production went viral and caught the eye of Scott and Sigourney Weaver.

Scott ended up giving the school money to help them fund an encore performance and that performance took place on Alien Day and has now made its way online for the world to enjoy. Weaver even showed up to the performance and came out on stage to introduce it!

This is such a great production, and it actually turned out as awesome as you hoped it would be. It’s definitely worth your time to check out. The creative team behind it did such a great job, especially with the costumes and sets.

It’s also fun to see how they pull off some of the film most memorable moments such as the iconic chest buster scene.

Michael Biehn Will Reprise His Role of Corporal Hicks in Alien III Audio Drama

After Ridley Scott’s Alien and James Cameron’s Aliens wowed audiences, David Fincher’s Alien 3 came along and ended up falling flat with audiences. I wasn’t a big fan of Alien 3, there was a chance that it could’ve been a really good film, though!

There was a script for the film that was written by William Gibson that the studio didn’t want to use, and over the years it has gained cult status. Well, that script is now being turned into an audio drama for Audible and Michael Biehn is set to reprise his role of Corporal Hicks in it!

Here’s are some details on the project that were shared:

"Audible is bringing William Gibson’s lost Alien III script to life in audio for the first time, to mark the 40th Anniversary of the birth of the Alien Franchise. Alongside a full cast Michael

Samantha Bee Dreads 2020 Election in ‘Aliens’ Spoof With Sigourney Weaver

Samantha Bee Dreads 2020 Election in ‘Aliens’ Spoof With Sigourney Weaver
Sigourney Weaver reprised the role of Ripley in an Aliens spoof where Samantha Bee and other prominent journalists shuttle off to outer space to avoid the 2020 election. The prerecorded sketch screened Friday at Bee’s Not the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.

In the sketch, Weaver’s Ripley and her crew are investigating a seemingly abandoned spaceship when they discover Bee clutching a Trump doll, a nod to the Alien sequel character Newt.

“I can’t do it! I can’t handle another presidential election! There are too many candidates,” Bee told Ripley.

What Avengers: Endgame Means for TV's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. — As Well as One Other Marvel Series
The following contains major spoilers from the blockbuster motion picture Avengers: Endgame (as well as its Infinity War predecessor).

The events of Avengers: Endgame (in moviehouses now!) deftly reconnected the McU with one Marvel TV series, while calling into question the film’s speculated synergy with Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.‘s imminent Season 6.

To recap: The final four episodes of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 5 aired after the release of Avengers: Infinity War, which ended with “The Snapture” aka Thanos acquiring all the Infinity Stones and using them to eliminate a full half of all life in the universe.

A Beginner’s Guide To James Cameron

In our latest beginner’s guide, Tom Jolliffe looks at the career of James Cameron….

Like many of the top directors, it didn’t happen overnight for James Cameron, now dubbed The King of the World (possibly by himself?). He worked in visual effects, and as an assistant director before getting his break in B pictures. It didn’t go so well the first time around, with Piranha II: The Spawning. He was quickly replaced during the shoot by an experienced producer (very much in the Roger Corman ilk) and not allowed in the editing process. Rumours have circulated in years since that Cameron broke into the editing suite to try and salvage his own vision. As you might expect from a film called Piranha II, it’s not brilliant, but Cameron has far from scrubbed it entirely from his memory banks or conversation.

A robot killer from the future would follow next,

Alien star Sigourney Weaver surprised the cast and crew of North Bergen High's Alien: The Play by showing up at the school to personally congratulate them on the show. The moment was captured on video, which was shared yesterday on Twitter by the official Alien account for Alien Day. "Look who stopped by North Bergen High to visit the spectacular cast of Alien: The Play. Thank you, Sigourney Weaver! And thank you, North Bergen High!" the caption states. In the clip, the students are clearly in awe at Weaver's presence, with one starstruck performer who calls the actress her "childhood hero." The video concludes with Weaver giving the young actress a hug with the rest of the cast applauding.

Directed by Ridley Scott and released in 1979, Alien starred Sigourney Weaver as the iconic character Ellen Ripley. Tom Skerritt, Veronica Cartwright, Harry Dean Stanton, John Hurt, Ian Holm, and Yaphet Kotto also starred.

Neca Unveils Harry Dean Stanton as Samuel Brett Figure for #AlienDay

Today is officially "Alien Day," and Neca is celebrating the occasion with a sneak peek image at an all new action figure of Samuel Brett from Alien.
