Storyline

Vinnie Terranova does time in a New Jersey penitentiary to set up his undercover role as an agent for the OCB (Organized Crime Bureau) of the United States. His roots in a traditional Italian city neighborhood form the underlying dramatic base throughout the series, bringing him into conflict with his conservative mother and other family members while acting undercover as syndicate enforcer. The segments, which ran several shows each, included in-depth and empathetic characterizations of the players on both sides of the law. Scenarios include the underbelly of the recording industry, protection rackets, international arms dealing, foiling white supremacist plotters, uncovering a government conspiracy to set up a compliant new head of state in a third-world country, and Vinnie's final reconciliation with his Italian mother and her new husband, the purely legendary Mafia figure Don Aiupo. Mike 'Mooch' Cacciatore: You got no cause for arrest.
Frank McPike: What are you, greaseball, a lawyer?
Mike 'Mooch' Cacciatore: Yeah, well, as a matter of fact, I am. Y'know, you grow over 6'4" and everybody automatically assumes you're brain dead. Now, I think you're too short and wimpy-looking to be a Fed, but there you are.
[grabs McPike's arm as he tries to leave]
Mike 'Mooch' Cacciatore: You arrest my client, and I'll make you wish you were a farmer rather than a Fed.
Frank McPike: You know you have your hand on me?

SUPER Show
15 June 2000 | by blkeagleSee all my reviews

I enjoyed watching Wiseguy. It was the first crime drama which took criminals and made them PEOPLE. Never mind you didn't like most of them...they were people. Also, Jim's role as Vinnie's "bodyguard" and protector when things got 'too hot' was great....in my case, it placed a different perspective on those getting around in a wheelchair. Also, Vinnie's boss was tough and gentle at the same time....Cannell REALLY did a good job with this show, from preproduction promotion to the execution of each episode. I even stayed up late at night to watch the reruns on the CBS Late Movie!

Settummmanque!
