A city councilman explores the seedy side of town to help him decide how to approach an urban renewal project. Being obviously not from there he is beaten in the street and his wallet stolen. A transient helps him and guides him into the sordid world surrounding a strip tease dive, and eventually has an intense affair with one of the strippers. Then someone is murdered, and he is implicated and must try to clear his name.

Beyond Pleasure ... Beyond Pain ...
Did You Know?
Nothing wrong with the dark - you spend half your life in it - trouble is, most people keep their eyes closed.
In the version shown on Showtime and The Movie Channel, both the sex scene between William Katt and Maria Ford and the scene near the end with Katt tied to a chair, were drastically shortened to just a few seconds each. When this movie aired on HBO and Cinemax, both scenes were much longer and slightly more graphic. All the versions were listed as being R-rated, so perhaps Showtime/The Movie Channel aired a 'Blockbuster' cut of the film. (Blockbuster is known to carry specially censored versions of some movies which they feel are too graphic) See more
