Trivia

Although celebrated for its "eclectic" mix, several well-known artists and bands have been denied an appearance on the series. These include Def Leppard, Marillion, Steven Wilson and McFly. Joe Elliott from Def Leppard said in an interview: "Jools Holland won't have us on his show because we're not cool enough". In 2008, The Guardian's chief music writer Alexis Petridis criticised the series for its "distinct lack of spontaneity" and accused it of not being eclectic enough, instead launching the careers of too many "MOR singer-songwriters". A COOL MUSIC EXTRAVAGANZA WITH GOOD VARIETY
7 November 2001 | by sixstringscouserSee all my reviews

I've watched 'Later..' a lot over the nine years that it's been running. I think what makes it an enjoyable watch is the musical vriety that this show embodies. For instance... a guitar-god like Jeff Beck ripping it up in the studio and then onto some plaintive African singing, and then to delta blues artists and current pop acts and also a couple of interviews for good measure. Unlike kid's music shows that just focus on Spice Girls, Hear'Say and Robbie Williams or whatever! So it has my vote. Keep it up Jools...! 9/10
