Trivia

Co-Writer and Director Franco Amurri was inspired to make the film, because of the constant pleading of his young daughter for a pet. See more »

Goofs

Eva uses plastic-handled scissors to cut the fried chicken, much of which is obviously hard and crunchy, and so those flimsy-handled (the blades' metal handle-portions have just short stumpy tabs on the ends that only protrude a small distance into the plastic handles instead of extending all the way into and around the finger-loops, and so this type of scissors is notorious for the handles' breaking at this spot) scissors would never have been able to hack off a large/thick piece of the chicken, especially with the awkward clumsy manner in which the small-handed Eva is operating the scissors. Good Family Viewing, But Pretty Unmemorable
30 October 2006 | by ccthemovieman-1See all my reviews

This little girl in here (played by Thora Birch) is a little annoying because of her constant lying. However, in the end - as in most stories that dealing with people who lie all the time - she sees that the troubles she's encountered are due to those prevarications.

The monkey in here is fun to watch. It was also nice to see Mimi Rogers in a wholesome and - gasp - even more shocking: Harvey Keitel not utter a bad word. Rogers and Christopher MacDonald play too-liberal parents, discipline- wise, but otherwise this is a pretty enjoyable lightweight film that moves along at a good clip.

It's not memorable, but it's family-safe and a decent movie for the adults, too.
