Meanwhile, his father-in-law has been putting the squeeze on Edgar's boss, telling him that Edsgar has fallen heir to so much money he is going to buy out the business and fire his boss. The Slow Burn
6 June 2019 | by bobliptonSee all my reviews

Edgar comes home, dejected over not having gotten a promotion. Florence and her father, Billy Franey, take him to see a consultant. He gets Kennedy to rent an expensive him with a staff to impress the boss. Edgar doesn't like the expense, and he really hates the snobby butler, who tries to get him to take a bath.

Th highlight of this entry in the long-running series "The Common Man", is Edgar's "slow burn", in which he expresses his growing frustration by grimacing and covers his eyes and mouth with one hand. This invariably ended with him exploding in enraged action against his tormentor.

Billy Franey was born in 1889. He entered the movies in 1914 at Universal's "Joker" unit. A veteran of 450 shorts and features, he died in 1940. In his appearances in the Edgar Kennedy shorts, he usually played Vivien Oakland's father when she played Edgar's wife.
