Film Review: ‘Blue Iguana’

Film Review: ‘Blue Iguana’
Everyone remembers the best among the scrappy 1980s films that started American “indie film” in earnest — particularly those over-stylized, wink-wink comedies by Jim Jarmusch, Susan Seidelman, Alexandre Rockwell, and so on that were among the movement’s most influential early successes. Similarly, few could forget how much fun “Reservoir Dogs” and “Pulp Fiction” were, revitalizing the crime-caper genre with wit and outsized directorial personality.

What we’d prefer to forget is just how many labored comedy quirkfests and effortfully wiseass capers the above films “inspired” for years afterward — wannabe movies straining for the same qualities without any original inspiration, failing to find their own voice while deliberately or unconsciously mimicking somebody else’s. The majority of these pale imitations wound up a blip on the Sundance Festival radar — if they were lucky — then were forgotten ever after.

Unfortunately, those happily buried cinematic memories come rolling back with the arrival of “Blue Iguana,

Norman Reedus & STXfilms Ink Genre Feature Deal For ‘Walking Dead’ Star – Comic-Con
Exclusive: Norman Reedus will be taking the stage at Comic-Con today with his compatriots from The Walking Dead, but the actor will also be taking it to the big screen with STXfilms in the not so distant future.

Reedus and the Adam Fogelson-run division of Stx Entertainment have inked a deal to develop a genre feature for the Ride host to both star in and produce, I’ve learned.

Much like the agreements that STXfilms put together with Jason Statham and Guardians of the Galaxy’s David Bautista earlier this year and late last year respectively, the project will be specifically tailored to play to Reedus’ established and not inconsiderable audience of Twd viewers and beyond.

“Norman has steadily built up a devoted fan following across movies and television with memorable performances,” STXfilms chairman Fogelson told me of the project. “Stx is thrilled to collaborate with Norman on this

Blu-ray Review – The Boondock Saints (1999)

The Boondock Saints, 1999.

Directed by Troy Duffy.

Starring Willem Dafoe, Sean Patrick Flanery, Norman Reedus, David Della Rocco, Billy Connolly, and Dot-Marie Jones.

Synopsis:

A pair of Catholic brothers turn vigilante and go on the rampage in Boston’s criminal underworld.

With a production history as troubled as some of the characters in the movie, Troy Duffy’s The Boondock Saints hits Blu-ray thanks to Arrow Video and immediately takes us back to a post-Tarantino 1990s where linear storytelling was out and exaggerated bloodshed and violence was in, with quirky characters played by established actors and stylised dialogue a necessity. Oh yes, after Pulp Fiction redefined – or rather, reshaped – the crime thriller into pop art for a new generation looking for their own iconic images and quotable soundbites the movie world was suddenly full of filmmakers trying their hand at creating something cool that would catch on in the lexicon of film culture.

Hideo Kojima on Casting ‘Bionic Woman,’ the Influence of Film, Importance of Secrecy

Hideo Kojima on Casting ‘Bionic Woman,’ the Influence of Film, Importance of Secrecy
It took an impassioned three-and-a-half-hour presentation, sometimes nearly punctuated by tears, to convince Lindsay Wagner (“The Bionic Woman”) to take a creative leap of faith and appear in a video game in development by Hideo Kojima, the auteur game-maker recently told Variety.

Long a fan of Wagner’s work, Kojima said he wanted her for his upcoming game, “Death Stranding,” but knew she famously didn’t like to do work that depicted violence.

“When I first tried to approach her, her agent mentioned this,” Kojima told Variety through a translator. “But I really wanted her to be in the project, so I said I just wanted to meet her and talk with her.”

Wagner had heard of his request and did a bit of research, discovering that many of Kojima’s past games, while featuring violence, had anti-nuclear warfare themes. So she agreed to the meeting.

Kojima said, during a
