AKA Rooting and Tooting
26 January 2015 | by bobliptonSee all my reviews

The cowboy mouse is courting his squaw mouse, when the two cats -- Jesse and James -- decide to rustle cattle and kidnap the squaw mouse. Well, it seemed like a good idea to them, I suppose.

It seems like a good idea to me, too as Paul Terry's staff reduces the parts of a western to a series of melodramatic tropes. They also give the cels a bit of a sepia wash that sharpens the image amazingly and add the 7th Cavalry to the action -- why it's always the 7th Cavalry is beyond me, but it is. A lot of the Terrytoons in this period look like they were done on the cheap to meet contracts, raise money and not waste much time or thought on story conferences. This one, however, is quite watchable.
